Any chance of having a “Return to Main Menu” button at the end of each topic?
Unfortunately I can’t see away to do this at the moment without getting into difficulty with the coding, other than just using the ‘Back’ button on your browser. Thanks for your encouragement.
PartisanZParticipantFukuyama added, to my surprise: “At this juncture, it seems to me that certain things Karl Marx said are turning out to be true. He talked about the crisis of overproduction… that workers would be impoverished and there would be insufficient demand.” Yet the only plausible systemic rival to liberal democracy, Fukuyama said, was not socialism but China’s state capitalist model.
He seems impressed by China’s ability to see and plan long term, but is fearful of a USA reaction. Citing the Thucydides trap.
It is all grand narrative stuff, he should really go back and read Marx to understand poverty is both relative and absolute with its reproduction an invevitable consequence, rather than a manageable abberation of capitalism even in command statist capitalism with Chinese characteristics. His justifiable fear of global conflageration doesn’t seem to notice the present proxy skirmishes delivering $100,0000 U.S. made missiles launched from $20M planes and bombs falling daily upon civiliian populations living on less than $1 a day in the Yemen.
PartisanZParticipantThat gives us a chance to get a join in, if only to say that socialism is not about state ownership or regulation. In fact by stating that communism (which = socialism for Marx and us) has never been tried and is “a social arrangement where there is neither a state nor private property” (footnote p. 4) the White House has given us a perfect cue to intervene.
This is the already main activity of most of the comrades posting on Quora and elsewhere has been focussed upon, debunking the distortions held up as examples of ‘socialism’ ‘communism’.

PartisanZParticipantHere is some more agenda setting and closing activity by a convention backed by the Israeli government. Not that we would engage in boycotting or any such partisan activity. We are opposed to the very notion of nation states.

PartisanZParticipantThere is now a ‘Join the Forum’ option added to the ‘Forum ‘ drop down menu.

PartisanZParticipantAnother ominous sign?
Is it being so cheery keeps you going?
PartisanZParticipantI was talking to someone I know yesterday who is interested in the party case and suggested he join the forum. I looked at the site today and couldn’t find anyway that new members could sign up to join, any one able to offer advice?
I thought the ‘Forum’ then ”Member Login’ tabs took care of all of that. But apparently not.
I’ll get back to you.
PartisanZParticipantI moved my answer to the technical question Alan asked about ‘spoiler; to the website /tech section here.
PartisanZParticipantWas the Internet Committee shown different styles of websites with the various available functions? The quote function for example is pretty basic. Surely members could have looked at the different styles etc before choosing? Here is a random user friendly. Don’t need to ask how to log in
A ‘Member Login’ facility has been added to the ‘Forum’ link.
We had been spending some time prior to the hacking of our website trying to find a developer who was secure and priced within affordable constraints to upgrade the existing system.
When the system became compromised we were then left with a different set of urgent circumstances.
So we were tasked with deciding two options after cleaning infected files and saving the content as well, as at the time hoping to retain previous forum members and protecting and renewing their posting privileges.
The choice was limited to remaining with the original but updated Content Management System (CMS) or moving over to the WordPress version. There were a number of factors which led us to go with the latter option, costs, future proofed usability and security etc.
The forum software comes bundled within the WordPress CMS. There were two options within that CMS using the themes the developer chose.
The degree to which it is further customisable has still to be explored in more detail later on.

PartisanZParticipant“Two things missing on the new Forums, which were on the old one, a thread visitor count and who is online?
Facebook, Twitter and most Forums have a like feature. Could this be added?”We can have a look at later additions to the functionality of it. At the moment we are concentrating on the actual website, doing archive heirarchies and so no.
PartisanZParticipantEureka. That was a quote from Alan J. Now I now how to do bold and italics as well.
Why does the passage quoted appear so large?I think it was the ‘blockquote cite’= of Alan’s does that. Yes definitely i just checked. You end with just the ‘/blockquote’.

PartisanZParticipantTry this.

PartisanZParticipant“I’m continuing to add and update events and branch meetings, etc., Matt, and if there’s anything else you think I’m competent enough to do then please say the word. 🙂”
Thanks Dave. I hoped you would still be doing this but I didn’t know for sure what arrangements had been made.
PartisanZParticipant> Hi Matt

> You are making good progress and Im sure will get in there in the end. I think it is useful to have this kind of two way interaction/ I’m not tech savvy at allNor am I really, just learning as I go and forgetting again and having to relearn. It was easier but a bit laborious previously to just do html but it was not pretty or efficient hence the C.M.S. But the CMS brings its own constraints as to what is possible. It can be adjusted but needs a knowledge of coding and this is specialist.
> so I need to know something of the kind of constraints you operate with and conversely it is useful for you to know how us techno simpletons view things. We tend to like things nice and simple and straightforward! I guess in time additional features will be built into the website (and most particularly the forum which I regard as being absolutely central to the site) which will make everyone happy. I hear what you say about it not being possible to do it all at once with only yourself and Rob working on it.

> Just one thing regarding the pamphlet section which is now much improved and in date order – it is not immediately obvious that there are several pages listing pamphlets . Is there a way of highlighting this more clearly – even just stating “more pamphlets” or “older pamphlets” in bold or something and making the dividing line between pamphlets and the current SS at the bottom of the page much thicker to differentiate it from the list of pamphlets. Ditto the Blog details. The Pamphlets main page you see is not one of the editable pages which I could put a notice on top of to highlight the links to others at the bottom. I just tried to do it. Sorry. I’ll keep it in mind and get it added in future.
It is not ALL in date order that was too big a job. (see** below)The pamphlet themselves are individual pages, but the CMS then shifts the latest posting to the top automatically. Which is how I was able to do a workaround to redo the order. The previous CMS had a facility where we could ‘weight’ the pamphlets in order giving them a number and this displayed them according to those specifications. The bloke at the agency was looking at this weighting idea but we couldn’t make any progress as any adjustments to code creates other unforeseen problems. But I had a hunch which worked with this months Standard to put the last page up first and so on, in reverse order so tried this with **more recent pamphlets.
PartisanZParticipantHi Robin, I had a lengthier reply but lost it when fixing the links in that other reply.
So briefly, we may be able to use a plugin for the Forum but are holding off for now, as we can not be sure of its compatibility with this particular version of WordPress.
So we will stick with the present lean and mean one for now
I believe all previous users will have been contacted.
There is a bit of work to be done on the main website with some outstanding issues preventing archive updates and this needs to be fixed.
As there is only myself adding material and Rob doing the Standard,, progress will be slow regardless of advice, tech savvy or not.
Once the site is finished and the issues previously referred to sorted I can prepare a worksheet for any forthcoming volunteers.
