“– As is the term “medieval” in the first place, assuming a period of stagnation between the two “civilised” ones of Roman empire and “Renaissance.”
A bit off-topic, but isn’t ‘medieval’ a reasonable description of a fairly dark western European period of migrations, invasions, wars, collapses, total loss of knowledge, and, er, multiple plague pandemics?

In fact, the science behind climate change isn’t the urgent puzzle—the physicist Arrhenius connected global warming and carbon dioxide one-hundred twenty years ago. The deeper question is this: Why, in spite of knowing the apocalyptic implications, has humanity burnt so much fossil fuels in the last century?…
Got me searching for Arrhenius. (Born in a castle like myself.)
The fact that today’s civilization is so unequal, energetically costly, and destabilizing to the environment is no accident. It follows from the connection between inequality, ecological disorder and extreme energy consumption. Much of societal breakdowns can be traced to a mixture of environmental stress and social disorder.

PartisanZParticipantPartisanZParticipantThe fact that knowledge is a social construction does NOT to mean it ought to be subject a democratic vote. An absurd idea anyway since it is totally impractical and more akin to a religious dogmatic approach to the “Truth”
He has been told this innumerable times. That socialism will be an advanced , democratic, post-capitalist society, run by us all, locally, regionally, globally, in administration over resources and not a government over people.
Where we delegate specialisms, scientific, technical, or other responsibilities within particlar bodies they will be subject to instant recall, they will not govern and in any case the people who make the revolution will set the modus operandi.
PartisanZParticipantOh technically yes, but not while they are gleefully and thugishly kicking the shit out of defenceless workers, imigrants and asylum seekers.
PartisanZParticipantYes I am with YMS on this. The French cops are total bastards on a par with their American counterparts.
PartisanZParticipantSo much for LT’s ‘fascistic coup’.
