Two letters from the poet Michael Rosen in his attempts to have the text disseminated online…22/07/2006You report the finding of a lost poem by Shelley (Review, July 14) and it seems as if the poem is explosive stuff, supporting the Irish in their attempts to get rid of British rule, while mentioning on the way the injustice of the British presence in India. People from many constituencies are interested – poets, poetry lovers, students of romanticism, students of leftwing and anti-colonial movements and many more besides. So why is it that we are not yet allowed to read the poem? When and where was it rediscovered? Who are the privileged people who so far have been permitted to read it? Why don't they spend the half-hour it would take to scan it and put it up on the web for all of us to read and enjoy? Presumably money is involved. The "owner" of the poem (past or future) will no doubt find a way of selling it, while the ghost of Shelley howls with contemptuous laughter.Michael RosenLondon11/07/2013John Mullan's commentary on The Masque of Anarchy was a welcome read and it's great that the poem itself is available online. If only this were the case for Shelley's Poetical Essay on the Existing State of Things, published in 1811. Having slipped out of sight for nearly 200 years, the poem was "discovered" in 2006, put up for sale and is now "in private hands". The effect of this bit of business is that the poem is not generally available, as making it so would lower the value of this unique copy. This reminds me that though we talk blithely about the "republic of letters" and the "free circulation of ideas", when it comes to the rules of property, we interested readers can go hang. Perhaps Amnesty could take on the injustice of the continuing imprisonment of Shelley's poem.Michael RosenLondon

“Keir Hardie was a great opponent of the First World War and apparently next year the government is proposing to spend shedloads of money commemorating the First World War. I'm not sure what there is to commemorate about the First World War other than the mass slaughter of millions of young men and women, mainly men, on the Western Front and all the other places.“And it was a war of the declining empires and anyone who's read or even dipped into Hobson's great work of the early part of the 20th century, written post World War, presaged the whole First World War as a war between monopolies fighting between [inaudible] markets.“The reason I say this is next year the government are planning this celebration and I think that's an opportunity for us. It's an opportunity to discuss war and discuss peace and to put up an alternative point of view.”  Jeremy Corbyn  Did the SPGB ever debate with this guy. Surely if it came down to it he would be for the Revolution. Or am I talking shite? Problem with some lefties is they're so near…yet so far?

Well I take it back. From what I've read clearly the most heinous disgrace to humanity isn't Islam. It's "humanity".

I see what you're trying to do smart arse. I hate all of these cunts no matter which "faith" they adhere to. But I especially hate the most heinous disgrace to humanity…Islam. The word itself means "submission" and it causes these crazy mad fucks to throw acid in their own children's faces, to cut out the clitori of their daughters without so much as an aspirin to ease the pain, to blow themselves up to fuck in the hope they'll shag all the virgins they can get their hands on in paradise, to play "Bacha Bazi" with wee boys, to force their own kids into abusive marriages for dowry points, to truss their women up in horrible Darth Vader costumes whilst raping and battering fuck of them. Muslims are bastards as well as Orangemen and the KKK, the dirty whoremaisters and kiddy fiddlers in the Vatican and the mad Jew Nazi's who are running Israel. I HATE ALL OF THESE CUNTS! CAPISCE?

Imagine trying to explain the case for Socialism to these bastards. 1.5 Billion Muslims in the World with their heads stuck in the Middle Ages. What a fuckin mess.

Isn't Facebook just a gigantic surveillance tool and a vacuum…the total antithesis of a "Social Network and a vast depository leading to nothing? This is what the mad songwriter Laurie Anderson has to say about it when she says "Capitalism is a Disaster for Human Relations". http://www.theguardian.com/film/2015/sep/10/laurie-anderson-on-death

Yes of course you are right about the general level of cynicism out there. I just hope we can hold onto the Internet and keep it the way it is. Hopefully the net itself is just too vast to control?"The fact is overwhelmingly people haven't a clue of even the existence of the SPGB  let alone what it stands for." Yes you are completely right about this as well. Mores the pity. I recently watched a crazy documentary on BBC4 about this middle class guy with too much money and time on his hands who went over to India to seek "enlightenment". The idiot ended up hanging about with these "Sadhu's" or so called "Holy men". Their behaviour is seen as normal and righteous in modern day semi-Feudal India but here in Europe these loons would be sectioned under the mental health act. At one point the camera panned to the sight of some crazy mad fuck who (in order to please the Gods) had decided to walk about with his right arm raised in the air all day long. Worse than that this silly cunt had been floating about like this for the past 40 years to the extent that you could see his arm was permanently locked in this position! Yet if only the party changed it's ways then this vegetable and some of the 30 million other Sadhu zombies might at some point be able to join the WSP in India.I also watched another show about Sikhism and "Partition" which was equally depressing. Whilst Sikh behaviour isn't perhaps as extreme as the Sadhu lunacy, clearly the Sikh sensibility is as consumed with hatred and loathing as the hearts and minds of paranoid Jews, vengeful Moslems and do-gooder Christian arseholes. I hate all of these cunts no matter which "faith" they adhere to because they subscribe to a belief system which dresses murder and torture up as "God's Love". Sick pathetic fucks the lot of them. I say fuck their pity, charity and "love". As a gay man I can tell you if these cunts had their way my life would be snuffed out. Pronto! Yet their leaders are the biggest kiddie fiddlers and whoremaisters walking. PLEASE!I guess the idea is that once these pedlars become members they'll soon see the error of their ways because there'll be plenty of "real" Socialists there to guide them so they can become fully fledged athiest members. NOPE! Such an enterprise would be a disaster for an organisation which is already dying on it's feet. I'm stating the obvious here in saying that you would immediately see mass resignations and cancellations of membership from genuine Socialists and if not that then the emergence of several splits and opposing camps within the WSM were these wankers ever to be admitted. Eventually you'd have a situation where the party would end up as a "Broad Church" with religious members outnumbering real Socialists. Religion is about one thing and one thing only no matter how they try to camouflage it…MONEY AND HATE. Well that's two things but you get me. I don't know who I hate more…religious cretins or lefties. It's not just your local Anglican arsepiece down the road were talking about here but every phony religious bastard of whatever hue. Do you seriously want these people spreading their poison within the realms of the SPGB/WSM? It's not as if there are throngs of sky pilots queueing up outside head office waiting to join. For me the whole thing smacks of desperation and a frustration that the party has made very little headway in the last century. I see the world as fully Capitalist in the way it is structurally organised but at the same time there are vast areas of the globe which are still stuck in a kind of Feudalism. There are billions whose lives exist in a moral and intellectual universe which is about 500 years behind the times. Surely the object would be to preserve the Party as a bastion of radical thinking, unsullied by any religious hocus pocus mania so that it can shine a light. The only torch of Socialism on Earth. A pilot light on a wee peep at the moment yes but expect the gas to be turned off once any of the faithful are admitted. Anyway rant over for now.PS Excuse my French but I love swearing. It just seems to add metaphysical weight to a sentence. HahaCheers Ray (Mr ANGER!!!)

I think the Internet is to blame for all of this. Not the Party. If it's not religion they're hooked on then hundreds of millions of workers are addicted to online porn, video games, sports, Faecesbook, twitter and all the rest of the shit. Fuck I spend hours on my iPhone every day. I'm addicted too. There's ever more blatantly nationalist/pro capitalist shit on the hundreds of channels on the telly. Never before in history have the masters been able to dish up so many distractions in the form of "entertainment" than now. I don't know if anyone on here is taking this into account. Arguably the net is actually making workers even more stupid, addicted and phobic than they already were. Yesterday I watched the first item on CH4 news which detailed the effect the Intermet is having on the brains of kids. The masters are catching them younger and younger these days because these weans of 3-5 years old are consumer monkey drones already. What the fuck are they going to be like as adults? Total epsilons? What astonishes me is how prescient Huxley and Orwell were. Their horrible vision is slowly coming true. The iPads are the tele-screens now. What really disappointed me was how the Zeitgeist Movement just seemed to shrivel away and die off. Was this because it was a phenomenon borne of the Internet? Similarly just look at how successfully the Capitalist Class completely extinguished and buried the Occupy Movement. I hope I'm totally wrong here but from what I can see the Capitalists are slowly but surely eclipsing the entire neutrality of the net leading to a situation eventually where the Internet will be their tool almost completely. Our masters would have nothing to worry about even if we didn't have the net because the workers I come into contact with every day are utterly clueless about the fact that we even live in a social system. They never ask questions. EVER EVER EVER!!! The fact is I would be in the same boat as them had both my parents not been party members. Their involvement is the only reason I ever joined (then left). From what I'm reading, party members are beating themselves up over an issue over which they have no control. What can a body of 350 mostly elderly people do? Clearly the WSM is dying out in the face of a collosal global pro capitalism entertainment behemoth.

What you mean total WSM membership is only 75? Oh shit. We've been living in some form or other of private property society for some 10,000 (?) years now plus we are brainwashed from day one of life into believing this is the only way of running things and all this allied with the fact that the 1% own every possible organ of the media makes me think there's no way out of this. I can't help it.
