    Recently a Forum member received a suspension and I noticed that there was a 73 day time lapse between his 1st. and 3rd. warning. It might help some of our more "passionate" Forum members avoid a suspension, if it was noted in the rules, how long a warning remains live.

    I never got the chance to ask the following question at yesterday's Hustings, so if anyone gets an opportunity, can you slip this one in. .What with manufacturers moving jobs to places like the Far East and India, to take advantage of cheap labour, and Zero Hours contracts  and low income jobs being taken out of the tax bracket (in this country), coupled with reduced revenue from North Sea Oil.With promises of tax freezes being thrown about like confetti, by the big parties, where is the exchequer going to find the money needed to run the country? And maybe this one.   In 2010, at the Iraq Inquiry, Tony Blair said that the removal of Saddam Hussein had made the world a safer place. Was he correct?

    I attended the Hustings at St. John's church, Seaham, with our candidate, Steve Colborn.The Lib. Dem. candidate did not show (that's the second event he/she has missed) but the others were out in force, Tory, UKIP, Green,North East Party and Labour Party.The audience of 38-40 was a pretty poor turn-out, considering most of them were partisans. Nevertheless, everyone was handed our party leaflets (there were no refusals).Steve's opening statement was assured and he was confident in his manner.(as expected)I got the first question in, on the N.H.S. but I never got an opportunity to ask any more. We needed more support.Toward the end of the event, the Green Party candidate (pointing to Steve) said that he agreed with much of what he (Steve) said.In his closing address the UKIP candidate tried to get away with saying that Communism had been tried before and failed.We did not let him get away with that. Lasted about two and a half hours, but time flew bye.

    Hi Meel,on the 9th of March this year, the B.B.C. showed ( rather timely as far as this thread is concerned) a documentary entitled,"ARE MURDERERS BORN OR MADE?"  http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-31714853"Jim Fallon, professor of psychiatry at the University of California, has a particularly personal interest in this research. After discovering a surprisingly large number of murderers in his family tree he had himself genetically tested and discovered he had an awful lot of genes that have been linked to violent psychopathic behaviour.As he puts it: "People with far less dangerous genetics become killers and are psychopaths than what I have. I have almost all of them"But Jim isn't a murderer – he's a respected professor." The link is only a short read, but if you can't be bothered to take a look, research indicates that given the right combination of genes, a child who is habitualy abused, fits the profile of a remorseless killer. So it is possible that those murdering German soldiers were created that way by their parents.

    Hi Capitalist Pig, as 2015 is an election year and we have candidates in the field, questions like yours are very welcome. Capitalism did not just happen overnight. In these british isles, it started (apparently) in the early 14th century and was a "work in progress" for the next 300 years or more, when the Enclosure Acts drove the bulk of those rural dwellers left on the land, into the towns. Christianity started slowly, languishing in obscurity for 300 years, until Constantine the Great, emperor of Rome, dreamt his dream, won his battle and legitimised the christian faith. Even then ( notwithstanding the cruel persuasive methods of the teutonic knights), it was not until 1413, that the pagans of Lithuania finally succumbed to christianity, embracing all of Europe in that faith.  Karl Marx died in 1883, some 132 years ago, so if the two examples of events given above are anything to go on, have faith, World Socialism (as we understand it) is still in it's infancy. As for the second part of your opening post, my socialist mentor and good friend, Bob Gleghorn told me this tale. Bob and his wife would visit his father-in-law every week. The old man was a life long Labour Party supporter and in his own words, a good socialist. He would pick a fight with Bob, every week, on politics and socialism. Of course the old guy would not bend, his Labour party version of socialism was correct and this little upstart who had married his daughter didn't know his left from his right. One day Bob called in on his father-in-law unanounced. The old man was leaning on the garden fence, arguing the case for World Socialism, with his neighbour.I guess we just have to keep plugging away, hoping that some messages hit home. While I am on this subject, none of us will probibly ever hear the likes of this again, at least not in this country. Being a coal miner, Bob used to take every opportunity to"" talk shop" to his fellow miners. While waiting at the shaft bottom for the cage (lift) Bob might have a captive audience of 40- 60 men. When the subject turned to politics (and it did) Bob was king.

    " the Green Party, unlike all other parties, is wholly democratic…" Should'nt we be challenging that statement?

    Have I logged into some alternative reality, or is this a Socialists season of goodwill?  SocialistPunk and Vin, back-slapping the Moderator? Look, if you two guys are getting paid for saying this, then I want my cut, because I think our Moderator has handled himself very well, "under fire."  There has only been one dodgey moment, but hey, he is only human. By my count, I have voilated Rules 1;2 & 14,  but it was worth it.

    The correct way to comment on an artilce in the Standard or the website is to go to the page you want to make comment on then either press 'comment' or 'view comments' at the bottom of the article. That will redirect you to the automatically generated thread in the comments section of the forum.Copying a whole article from the Standard and pasting it into the "general discussion" section is not the correct way to do it… I have been through the forum rules and nowhere can I find any link to the above statement.I have looked at rule 1. and I can't get it to apply to this scenario. Am I being pedantic? I do not read the Standard, on-line and I do not always have the time to read the "comments" section. Iread the offending article in Gen. Discussion and if Vin hadn't posted it there, I may not have read it yet. If rules are to be made, please make them concise, so that people like me and Vin don't fall foul of them………….. thankyou.

     http://www.thejournal.co.uk/business/business-news/newcastle-university-academic-quits-role-5387548                                                                 ALB, I am delighted that no one else has to work down the mines, here in the N.E. and I can see little to concern me about burning the coal (there is the global warming gases which DJP refered to, but there is talk of pumping that back down the holes) as long as the drilling sites are returned to their previous state and the North Sea is not used for a convenient dumping ground. But what does concern me is the fact that these boreholes have to go through the Magnesium Limestone and underlying sandstone, which contain much of our drinking water. Of course if it could be proved 100% that none of the tar-like, carcinogenic gunge which flows out in the Syngas could find it's way into our drinking water, I would have few objections  DJP, if you look at the link below, Link Energy's rep. says they have to stop their U.C.G. in Queensland because the local authorities insist on knowing what they are pumping down the bore-holes. They are fracking the holes, so an air circuit can be created, to draw off the Syngas http://www.couriermail.com.au/news/queensland/linc-energys-peter-bond-says-underground-coal-gasification-will-never-be-developed-in-australia/story-fnihsrf2-1226886990766?nk=8cead9a9599306735dc0

     Mining the Largest Shale Gas Reserve in the Northern Hemisphere: What the Frack?Subscribe to VICE News here: http://bit.ly/Subscribe-to-VICE-NewsThe UK government is going ahead…YOUTU.BE                         East Durham Action Group have started their campaign against Underground Coal Gasification. Already, what seems evident to me, is that County Councils, men and women elected by the people, to serve the people, have the power to block any fracking, or U.C.G. activities. Am I confident that they will? No!   Here is a little quote from the above article;

    Quote:
    "What is so insidious is the way that, " For Profit Co-operations," are undermining individual and community sense of power. They try to convince people that they have no power and the moment you accept this, you have lost.

    Looking at the title of this thread, "Are all Internet discussion doomed?"  On the basis of the evidence at hand, I would say that Internet discussion may well prove to be our most productive medium, because, just looking back to the five months, June to October, 47% of new members claimed to have discovered the S.P.G.B. through contact with the Internet.
