northern lightParticipant
Well it shows up on post #29 on my computer, in the section that is post&copied and nowhere else, and it is still there
northern lightParticipantI appologise for the off-topic, but is there something wrong with the Forum? On post #29 following the words,"computer programming," there is a green part circle with an accompanying green arrow. Anyone else seeing this?
northern lightParticipantHi YMS, I misunderstood the second part of your post, but, no problem I can go with that.(paste and copy does not work for me, so frustrating)
Quote:"There is clearly some problem of liason between the branch and the IC, and asking the IC what they want from branches in terms of a social media set-up would not hurt, and may clarify matters." [unquote]I agree with you YMS, there should be more liason between the IC and members/branches. It would be a simple matter for the IC to email all branches, warning of any pitfalls and reminding members that they(the IC) are always at hand to give a helping hand.DJP, I have no axe to grind with either you, or any other member of the IC. I come to this Forum to learn, to perhaps be taught by Socialists, better equipped than I. I hope this blessed Forum is a well used stopping off place for people on the path to socialism. However, words like dictats —- monolithic and centralised command are indicative of stalinism. That's punching below the belt.northern lightParticipantYoung Master Smeet, there is/was no need to write to the IC asking how to start up a branch twitter account. We already have one, managed by our branch secretary. Two branch members were due to be elected to hold the password and monitor the account, but recent events have distracted branch activity, somewhat Of course you already knew that the branch had a twitter account. You took part in the conversation on Spintcom. You even posted,"Grand and there you go, a win for democracy and co-operation." Then Matt moved the goal posts and frustrated Vin.As far as your second suggestion is concerned, the NERB already have a social media co-ordinator. It is comrade Maratty. He was appointed, Internet and Social Media Officer at our July 2015 meeting.
northern lightParticipantThat is a very good Twitter account Vin, well done. I would have followed the example of Matt over on the North East Branch site and published the link to it, here. Unfortunately I seem unable to paste and copy. Perhaps it's my Norton security.
northern lightParticipantModerator1, thankyou for your forthright reply to post#13. You ask, "does it matter who initiates such activity?" and my answer is, no, it does not matter, as long as that person(s) is a member of the World Socialist Movement and is not in their dotage. Comrade Maratty is already a serving officer of the S.P.G.B.. He is the Secretary of the N.E.R.B. AND our Social Media officer (a position which makes him a prime candidate to handle the @worldsocialism.com account on behalf of the World Socialist Movement. All too often the S.P.G.B. struggles to fill vacant positions, yet here we have a volunteer. If there is currently only one candidate asking to opperate the @worldsocialism.com twitter account and that candidate is Comrade Maratty, I would respectfully suggest you give him a try. What is there to lose? I reckon there is plenty to gain!! Moderator1, let me remind you of the question you so rightly asked me. "does it matter who initiates such activity." yours hopefully, joe davison
northern lightParticipantPost # 13 would seem not to count either.
northern lightParticipantI have a couple of questions.Which "companion party" has the Internet Committee offered the twitter account to ?Has any "companion party" reached out to the Internet Committee, asking to be more involved in Socialist activities?
northern lightParticipantOn the N.E.R.B.site, under, " Items for discussion for Jan. 2016 emeeting," post #2 refers to this matter. It includes a link to the Dec. 2014 emeeting, where a motion was accepted to ask the I.C. about the Twitter account, @worldsocialism. A courtesy copy was sent to the E.C. Unfortunately voting figures for the motion were not included with the courtesy copy sent to the E.C. so the E.C. defered discussing this matter till they had received the voting figures.I seem to recall reading that the @worldsocialism account had been suspended by the people who own/run Twitter and that any delay in dealing with this matter was not the fault of the I.C. Hopefully this matter will be resolved before, or during the Jan. meeting Comrade Maratty is a regular contributor to this Forum. He is very active on both Facebook and Twitter and is single handedly exploring the potential of internet videos for Party propoganda purposes. I think the Party should be getting behind Vin and giving him as much encouragement as possible.
northern lightParticipantLBird, regarding the pfd link you mention in #10, it will not open for my computer.
northern lightParticipantThanks for that information Gnome, much appreciated.
northern lightParticipantCan anyone tell me how many groups/branches there are in the S.P.G.B. and how many, apart from the N.E.R.B did not send anyone to the A.D.M.
northern lightParticipantIt was more than thirty years ago when I attended a debate between Harry Young and a cocky young Tory hopefull, that volunteers were called for, from the floor, to chair the debate. But that was a long time ago. Perhaps things have changed
northern lightParticipantModerator1 has asked on more than one occasion for volunteers to step up to the mark and ease his burden. To my knowledge, he has had no takers, so where will this list of volunteers come from?
northern lightParticipantAlan, you ask me why, "The 4th. Way." The First and Second way are left and right wing politics. Blair, with New Labour, came up with, " the 3rd. Way." A way of encouraging private enterprising business, while at the same time, taking the sting out of rampant capitalism. Any hope the blairites had of taming capitalism quickly vanished and New Labour became indistinguishable from the Tories. Corbyn puts a new slant on an old Labour policy. That of Nationalisation. In the past, industries were nationalised and run by government departments , in " the interest of the people." (we say that industries are nationalised to be able to use tax payers money to improve and modernise, before being put back in the hands of private business.) Corbyn's aim is to put selective industries in the hands of a coalitian of tax payers, private business and government. Not to be sold off when profitable. To my knowledge, this has never been tried in this country. This then is" Labour's 4th. Way."
