The World in Union by Kiri Te Kanawa

It’s ironic that this is the anthem for a violent sport (rugby). This song gives Imagine a run for its money as a potential anthem for the World Socialist Movement.

‘The Speaker of Canada’s House of Commons has resigned after inviting a Ukrainian man who fought for a Nazi unit to parliament and praising him.’ https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-66930482

“You pick some random ‘Ukrainian hero’ to cheer in parliament and he turns out to be a real-life Nazi. What are the chances!

“It almost makes it look like all those ‘Putin apologists’ claiming Ukraine has a Nazi problem (including the entire Western media until 2022) have a point.” – Jonathan Cook

Here’s something more upbeat: Fortunate Son by Creedence Clearwater Revival

(It’s used in Vietnam War films a lot)

The lyrics, provided by A-Z Lyrics: https://www.azlyrics.com/lyrics/creedenceclearwaterrevival/fortunateson.html

So, let me get this straight. If I were to write down a song’s lyrics while listening to it on a CD, I would be breaking the law?

And the lyric website: ‘A-Z Lyrics’, pays royalties for EACH of the THOUSANDS of songs it has published?

Young Master Smeet, copyright for lyrics doesn’t apply to sharing them online. Lyrics are freely available to view on many lyric websites. I copied & pasted the lyrics for the two songs above from Google.

Would you please re-amend my two posts?

    Saltwater by Julian Lennon

From an episode of Top of the Pops, first broadcast on 3rd October 1991:

    We are a rock revolving
    Around a golden sun
    We are a billion children
    Rolled into one…

    One in Ten by UB40

I am the one in ten
    A number on a list
I am the one in ten
    Even though I don’t exist…

    – Lizzie45

The Ukrainians are attempting to defend their homeland in much the same way most people would attempt to defend their homes (and loved ones) against an intruder.

WORKERS HAVE NO COUNTY. COUNTRIES SERVE THE CAPITALIST CLASS. Workers defending ‘their’ country is like slaves defending ‘their’ plantation. The best way people can defend their loved ones (from the evils of capitalism, including war) is to advocate then organise for socialism.

You keep telling us we’re wrong, Lizzie, but you don’t offer any constructive criticism.

Not at all. I meant the top tier of English/Welgish(England & Wales)/British football.

“Most of their wages comes from advertisers, not from gates (so, in a big way, we are part of the product, working for free, ourselves).”

Indeed. I read in a history book that in the 1930’s, premiership footballers were paid (adjusted for inflation) the same wages as skilled factory workers.

‘Utterly depressing to think about it.’

I often think of these two quotes:

‘Do you find it overwhelming that we live in a genuine nightmarish dystopia, but everyone acts like it’s normal?’

    and:

‘The best way to stop prisoners escaping is if they don’t know they’re in prison.’

Thanks for sharing that insightful article, Imposs1904.

Some team sports are similar to battles, with the managers as commanders & the team-members as soldiers. Chess also fits in well with that analogy.

It’s hard to imagine people taking-up sport professionally in socialism; for example, why would someone dedicate their life to being the world’s greatest runner in a world based on co-operation instead of competition?

It’s much easier to imagine people just playing games for fun in socialism (as opposed to there being contests).
