ParticipantDoes dialectics stand in contrast to positivism? Wikipedia suggests Karl Popper was a critic of positivism. Can you be a positivist and agree with the WSM?

ParticipantWhy would an emancipated worker with no pre-existing conditions take massive risk and consent to test a drug? They wouldn’t all be Johnny Knoxvilles would they?

ParticipantApart from the critique of communism as empirically falsified, was Popper right that dialectics is bunkum?
March 15, 2012 at 12:33 pm in reply to: Private property, collectivisation and land as a special kind of property #87942jondwhite
ParticipantMore specifically, is it accurate to describe socialist society as the abolition of private property? What is the response to depictions of socialism as collectivisation? What is the response to the idea that socialism only abolishes land as a category of private property? And everything else flows from the abolition of land as a special kind of property. I think these are distinct but related questions.

ParticipantI never realised quite how damning Ken was of the SWP until I watched this World in Action documentary (from 1993) last night. http://vimeo.com/36763181If indeed they back Ken, members might well ask why they should support someone who vehemently opposes them.

ParticipantHis speaking style is very boring with some notable exceptions such as his debate with William Buckley and his comments on Leninism in response to a Leninist.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VYlMEVTa-PIhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yQsceZ9skQI
