I'm just jealous that they have big red banner with their name on it.

Here's a more accurate description of the origins of the Labour Party, from the 1905 Manifesto of the Socialist Party of Great Britain, here on this site:

the Socialist resolution was magnificent but not war – not conductive to Parliamentary jobs, he meant – and he would vote for it anywhere but there.

I don't understand this sentence quoted.

Hear hear, I have already done this simple job and informed the internet committee a few weeks ago. Workers' Liberty offer ePub and Kindle downloads already.

"The Tories have never been completely liberal. They are nearer to Marx than to liberalism in any case. I recall reading somewhere that Marx actually joined them in his old age, for social rather than ideological reasons, no doubt, but I think they influenced him more than Hegel did earlier anyway, if not quite as much as the Cobdenite paper, The Economist, did."http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/WSM_Forum/message/49369

Didn't McDonagh claim Marx did this?

Isn't leisure its own problem though? The culture industry breaking free from its base and determining itself? So culture (inc. sport) is now overwhelmingly the most popular mental preoccupation not politics, economics or history.

Interesting stuff. The People's History book launch is at Bookmarks, 1 Bloomsbury Street, London, WC1B 3QE, but you need to reserve a space.I understand there were those in the SPGB who argued in favour of fighting to defend democracy during the Second World War? I have no truck with the British state and am wary of the Nazi = special all-powerful evil  moral equation. The SWP argue fascists are always a threat but simultaneously always being defeated by Unite Against Fascism. Perhaps there is some other position to hold? Democracy is workers greatest weapon and achieving socialism is our object?

I wonder how it compares with A People's History of the Second World War by SWPer Donny Gluckstein (book launch 10th November)

It is not the case with us and may not be the case with Paresh, but some critics of Leninism even those calling themselves Marxist socialists just want state-capitalism.Russia’s Rising Red Dawn. “There was no genuine socialism in the Soviet Union,” she said. “And it is inaccurate to portray us all as seeking a return to the past. That simply isn’t true. We are for a new modernized form of socialism.”

Funnily enough, I saw this too and posted in events and announcements. Imagine if say the SPGB had a property barely visited by non-members on a long busy high street in a major metropolis? Somewhere with high footfall, a shop front, with tables and chairs at ground level and a kitchen. Well … it does.

Interesting stuff, I posted the original because I was curious of his attitude or statements towards the SPGB. I just dug out an e-mail from him last year where I asked him about the SPGB and other groups and he replied;"I … find the exclusive attention on parliament a real diversion.  Most libertarian bodies like SolFed etc. have some excellent members but policy wise I find I disagree with them on many points, so Socialist Libertarians – who are based on the old council communists – fit the bill."He also said"There are other [pamphlets] on NHS, Shop stewards history, Joe Thomas etc. and one to come on Joe Jacobs."Different political labels seemed to be used in different pamphlets. So "Libertarian Socialists" for one pamphlet then "Socialist Libertarians" for another. I think the prefix "Independent" might have even been used.
