I knew this had been posted before.
jondwhiteParticipantApart from events scheduled for predictable dates, I don't think any other events will be published almost a year in advance. It is thoughtful to ask, see if anyone else has any comments.
jondwhiteParticipantHopefully wine and cheese will be made available.
jondwhiteParticipantConflict, unrest, disorder.
jondwhiteParticipantThanks for that, the TV news has shown footage of placards waved by Stop the War Coalition that read "Hands Off Syria". While the actions of the state military are not supportable, I can't help thinking this is too Little-Englander a slogan for world socialists to use.
jondwhiteParticipantHuh, Cameron was stopped prior to the Syrian demo? The biggest demo prior to a war in recent memory was the Iraq one in 2003 which failed to stop the war. This Stop the War hype does nothing but generate hysteria.
August 30, 2013 at 2:07 pm in reply to: Socialist Platform meeting – Saturday September 14, 1pm. The Meeting Place, 2 Langley Lane, London SW8. #96376jondwhiteParticipantI saw it advertised at the end of this article from this weeks Weekly Workerhttp://www.cpgb.org.uk/home/weekly-worker/975/socialist-platform-amendmentsIt has also been advertised elsewhere (on the websites of the groups involved?) as Alan J shared a slightly different wording in this forum.Given Weekly Workers target audience includes disaffected Trots, it could be a meeting where the SPGB might be thrown out … again! Especially if it is the same location (Nick Wrack's patch?).On this subject CPGB spoke with Nick Wrack at CU and it was recorded and is available herehttp://cpgb.org.uk/home/podcasts/fighting-for-a-mass-party-nick-wrackandhttp://cpgb.org.uk/home/podcasts/fighting-for-a-mass-party-john-bridge
jondwhiteParticipantPerhaps the US will go ahead with the attack.
jondwhiteParticipantthis is tomorrow. Any London members care to report/leaflet?
jondwhiteParticipantAlso looking at gnomes at home it remains the same (the little gnome avatar), but in work it is different (the anarcho-communist flag). Clear my cache or something like that I suppose.

jondwhiteParticipantForeign aid under capitalism can seem strange especially to proprietarians (or so-called libertarians). In fact, it often comes with strings attached about opening up national markets to foreign trade, reducing workers conditions etc. So it makes sense under capitalism. Also, Nigeria was mentioned before and it is a staggering example of one of the most resource-rich countries in the whole of the African continent remaining impoverished.
jondwhiteParticipantI appreciate line breaks being put in. Many a time I've posted three times before gnome has come to the rescue.
jondwhiteParticipantIt doesn't sound like anyone will be convinced either way on the red flag – as perhaps it comes down to gut instinct – but there is information suggesting
Quote:On 31 May [1831], Thomas Llewellyn, a coal miner, attempted to hold a rally advocating reform at Hirwaun Common. However, the reformers met with a more militant group who wanted to take more radical action. The radicals killed a calf and dipped the white cloth of a reform flag in its blood. They raised the flag on a pole as probably the first ever Red Flag ever flown as a left-wing symbol. It was delared to be a symbol of their slogan Bara neu Waed (Bread or Blood). The red flag (unadorned by hammer nor sickle) seems to have been used by workers in the class struggle regularly during the 19th Century.
jondwhiteParticipantLet us know any further thoughts you have on the works of Marx.
