DJPParticipantLBird wrote:Errr… by using a meaningful concept to explain the meaningless concept? Y'know, by analogy?
But if it really where meaningless they'd be nothing for the meaningful concept to refer to. Meaningless means there's no meaning in there to be had, like saying "the number 7 sleeps furiously", not that there's meaning there but that it's not understood…
DJPParticipantLBird wrote:To me, even now, it's essentially meaningless, even though I now understand what you and the SPGB are trying to get at.If the concept of value is meaningless, this means that the whole of Capital is meaningless. So why does it need explaining? In fact how can a meaningless concept be explained?

DJPParticipantVin wrote:LBird is contantly abusive and attributes unsavoury beliefs to other forum members. Would you suggest we simply ignore him and allow him to attack and abuse forum members? This is true and I still think something should be done about it. If LBird was a member of the party, or was at a physical meeting, he would not be allowed to continue behaving in this manner. For starters there's a conference resolution about not attacking the socialist credentials of fellow members, though I can't find it online…

DJPParticipantSocialistPunk wrote:It's like they see their own part in the unfolding situation as being totally blameless.Well of course I'm totally blameless and that's because I'm always right. See the article at the start of the thread
DJPParticipantBut then no-one changes there mind as the result of a few forum posts. I think we'll need to get the Debunking Handbook out for this one!
DJPParticipantGreat! Another nutter on a mission.
DJPParticipantJoin me on Libcom if you like, as far as I'm concerned this forum is pretty much a write off until the moderator does something about a certain disruptive poster….

DJPParticipantI've started a less doomed discussion going over at libcom:http://libcom.org/forums/theory/are-all-internet-discussions-doomed-23112014
DJPParticipantWell my conclusion is that on this forum at least, all discussions are doomed.
DJPParticipantNo pure boredom. Bored to tears. How many times are you going to repeat what is essentially the same post? That is why you have been banned from everywhere else, plus your reliable tendancy to launch into ad hominem attacks…The irony of it all
DJPParticipantI've told you I'm a free market libertarian. But seriously can someone ban this troll now?
DJPParticipantYou can remove the "evolutionary psychology" explanations and just so stories (in fact you are probably quite right to do so) but the predictably irrational patterns of behavior still remain. You are not so smart, no one is… Though none of this is a barrier to socialism. In fact it's doing some of the work for us. Behavioral economics have successfully undermined the assumptions of neo-classical economics. Socialism does not rely on the assumption that human beings are thoroughly "rational" agents.
