We should not forget the 50th anniversary of Star Trek this September.

I'm not that much of a fan, but isn't it only in the "Second Generation" that the space communism thing really comes out?

FWIW. I'm working on something for the 75th anniversary of the start of the Spanish civil war.

You're a physicalist and a materialist, DJP, so you believe that 'matter' determines our ideas. This robs a democratic society, like socialism, of its own power to determine knowledge, and places that power into the hands of an elite, who pretend to know 'what matter says'.Philosophically, you are a Leninist, notwithstanding your professed 'political' views. In any political battle with the democratic proletariat, you'll be compelled to support the elitist materialists (ie. Leninists), because they too pretend defer to 'matter'.

    Ad hominem.Is all matter rocks?

I can't afford to travel to Newcastle and stay 3 days in a hotel. London is pure fantasy Island. Besides why set such a hurdle. You can hear  me now cant you? We can have a discussion and decide here cant we?

Travel expenses can be claimed and free accommodation is available for delegates travelling to head office. The unit of organisation is the branch not the individual member. There is nothing, apart from inertia, to stop a branch meeting electronically or physically and sending in resolutions. And as has been said before decisions aren't actually made on the day (with the rare exception of floor resolutions) but afterwards when members return voting papers. Not attending HO is not a barrier to participation and financial support is available for delegates wishing to do so.

A stupid question with an even more stupid answer from LBird. What was that thing about "you can't blow up a social relationship"?

just great That will apply to Adam on BBC and others. That's fucked my video up. Hard to believe . But that's capitalism

There is such a thing as "fair use" not sure if it applies to UK copyright though.. If you're doing the video to practise editing I'd carry on and if it is put to official use the relevant permissions can be sought.

While we are on 'copyright' may I ask our resident lawyer a question? Who owns the copyright of Cde CS appearance on channel 4's 'Comment? And our election appearances? Could we be sued using the footage in a party video?

At the end "Copyright Channel Four LTD 1985" so we couldn't use it in an official video without their permission.

Correct me if I'm wrong but the only involvement was to liaise with the commercial company which filmed and produced the Euro election video.

And organising the shooting at head office. In the end I think the video was a good example of how members as committees can work together to get something done.

    Quote:
I'm all for giving kudos where it's appropriate but let's be perfectly frank; all in-house audio and video material produced in recent years, including those at Head Office, Conway Hall and Summer School, have been recorded, edited and uploaded by members other than those on the AV committee.  And three debates (two with the Zeitgeist Movement and the one with Peter Tatchell) were filmed, edited and uploaded by a non-member.

Sure, the depart suffers from a lack of human resources, this can only be rectified by people coming forward.

This is for the AV committee not campaigns. The TORs and committee email addresses can be found in the files section of spintcom should anyone need them.FWIW members of the AV committee where involved in the production and facilitation of the Euro election video and are still involved in the audio section of the website.
