Any comrades thinking of attending this?
DJPParticipantNeeds some tweaks, and I'd say it would benefit from being shorter, but some good ideas in there.
DJPParticipantGenerally I'd say the internet committee would only be speaking as the internet committee in response to a message sent to the email address, or in communications sent to the EC or other branches. So seldom on this forum, unless repeating a communication made elsewhere. The way to contact committees is through the email aliases listed in the files section if Spintcom, in case you didn't know..
DJPParticipantHi Tim. In short, if someone makes a comment in a personal capacity it should be understood as an opinion, not as an order from high command.

DJPParticipantGood to hear the Labour person speaking straight at the end about what the Labour party is.

Comrades and members of the public should be able to post on our fora without being subjected to verbal assaults. Verbally attacking members online not only makes the party look bad, but has a deleterious effect on party morale and is detrimental to the party in general.

There's some brand new political science studies concerning the Trump phenomena and authoritarianism, can't remember the names but I guess if you Google it will come up.
DJPParticipantALB wrote:They really are the party of the rich. I've never understood why so many who are not rich vote for them (though, I know, most people don't). But there you are.I think authoritarianism plays a big part, as in the success of Trump with the disenfranchised poor in the US. If you are worried about things and want a strong leader to sort it out, that's where you go to.
DJPParticipantalanjjohnstone wrote:My follow up question was having refused the offer of assistance, did those rejecting the offer try to seek other persons to take on the role and turn the original Twitter account into a useful tool for our organisation. The intention is to find person or ideally persons from the companion parties to operate the account. This has been explained to the applicant in an email.
alanjjohnstone wrote:And did the IC explain their course of action to the EC?Yes the EC is in the loop..
DJPParticipantalanjjohnstone wrote:Can i now ask who rejected and why the original Twitter wordsocialism offer to revive it was rejected? And what alternative was suggested and what were the measures to make it active once again? There seems to be some words missing from the question. But in answer to what I think you're asking. An individual applied to the IC. The IC rejected the individual. As this is a public forum and the question is about an individual and rejected application it does not seem appropriate to go into further details here. There is procedure with Twitter that organisations can go through to reclaim impersonating accounts.
DJPParticipantalanjjohnstone wrote:Is this brief summary accurate? If not, please correct my impression as simply as possible.Part of the Internet Committee's TOR is "To secure the Party’s electronic presence, including the maintenance of appropriate domain names." and "To maintain and moderate the Party’s websites, blogsites and forums."An *individual* applied to take up the moribund twitter account @worldsocialism.The offer was rejected.Said individual then set up a new twitter account @world_socialism (note the addition of the underscore)The IC wrote to the EC for clarification as to how to proceed. The motion was moved and carried by the EC.The description for @world_socialism was changed to read "The natural and industrial resources of the earth are the common heritage of all. Official account of North East Regional Branch SPGB."
