Calling everyone who votes in the referendum "class collaborators" just makes us look like a sad whining sect.If I vote, I'm going to vote "in" as the right to travel and settle and work within the EU with ease is a reform worth wanting. I'm sure the 5% of the UK population who will not get a vote on the issue, the EU nationals who live and work and have formed relations here, will think the same too.And how does the prediction about the Calais camps being "greatly swollen with Poles and Eastern Europeans too" amount to "no change"? If this line is meant as a joke it's not funny and shows a nationalistic bias that should not be in a socialist paper..Socialism is not coming for at least another 100 years but in the meantime I'd sooner not be stuck on a small island with with a bunch of xenophobic nationalists, which is what Brexit (albiet symbolically) represents.

OK seeing there's no confirmation in the link how come you can assert that conclusion?

I was speaking in jest in reference to the fact it was published a few days after this thread came out.

That shows that some people for whom English is only their second language have a wider vocabularly than some native English-speakers ! I'd too hadn't seen it used before but it's obvious what it means but then I had to study Latin in school. If it's not obvious see here for instance:http://www.thefreedictionary.com/veridicalMight be a parliamentary way of accusing someone of not telling the truth.

I'd only seen the term through studying philosophy of perception and Jon Searle's version of direct realism. A veridical experience is the opposite of hallucinatory one i.e a veridical experience is related to an actual state of the world but a hallucination is not…

So how come when I sign to my account  under Brian the Edit is visible and when clicked the Blocked and Active boxes appear?

That's because the account "Brian" also has moderator permissions. So you only need to log into the "moderator1" account to make a comment with your moderator hat on. You can still do other moderation tasks whilst logged in as "Brian"

Normal user can't "block" themselves nor delete their own accounts. The moderator is viewing the site with elevated permissions. If anyone doesn't want to use the site anymore the best thing to do is to cancel any email notifications and then stop logging in.

This has been done before, several times. What would make this time different?

The EC has already accepted the nomination. They have yet to accept the resignations, which where made some time ago and have not been retracted. The resignations have not affected the status of the nomination or any subsequent nominations.

For a reading group to be successful, i think, it has to be face-to-face such as in book club circle.

Yes, I think you're right. Without a face to face element they seem to loose inertia.

A comrade comes up with an idea

Ideas are very easy to come up with, especially if they are for other people to do. The problem is getting them put into action. If anyone wants to go to France then great! But who? And what effect could we realistically expect it to have?Normally it's Alan that is Private Fraser, so glad to be the fill in.

By implication then, the working class doesn't need a socialist party to educate, agitate and organise.

Well socialist ideas certainly do not originate with the SPGB, there's nothing that the SPGB says that others have not thought of independently. I think it's not a case of "making socialists" but of finding socialists, or arranging things so that socialists can find us.

So we should try and fill that vacuum, don't you think.

It's up to them to develop their ideas. We could get someone to turn up with some leaflets but we wouldn't be treated like the messiah arriving and would likely have little real influence on the movement. People are, rightly, suspicious of being manipulated by political parties…

I understand that there is the possibility of discussions being deliberately de-railed, however I haven't seen that as an issue here.

Off topic shouldn't be mechanically enforced and yes great ideas do spring from tangents I agree. The problem is when posters use *every* thread as a platform for there current bugbear / obsession / singular interest. If you're worried about moderation why not volunteer to help moderate? Serious suggestion.
