Bijou DrainsParticipant
Rather than link the song, I’ve put the lyrics down.
Most will have heard the song, the general public, including those who love to sing along with it, probably don’t realise what the song I saying.Going Underground The Jam
Some people might say my life is in a rut
I’m quite happy with what I got
People might say that I should strive for more, but
I’m so happy I can’t see the point
Something’s happening here today
A show of strength with your boy’s brigade
And I’m so happy and you’re so kind
You want more money, of course I don’t mind
To buy nuclear textbooks for atomic crimes
And the public gets what the public wants
But I want nothing this society’s got
I’m going underground (going underground)
Well, if the brass bands play and feet start to pound
Going underground (going underground)
Well, let the boys all sing and let the boys all shout for tomorrow
Some people might get some pleasure out of hate
Me, I’ve enough already on my plate
People might need some tension to relax
Me? I’m too busy dodging between the flak
What you see is what you get
You’ve made your bed, you better lie in it
You choose your leaders and place your trust
As their lies wash you down and their promises rust
You’ll see kidney machines replaced by rockets and guns
And the public wants what the public gets
But I don’t get what this society wants
I’m going underground (going underground)
Well, if the brass bands play and feet start to pound
Going underground (going underground)
So let the boys all sing and let the boys all shout for tomorrow
la-la-la-la
(Oh) la-la-la-la
We talk and we talk until my head explodes
I turn on the news and my body froze
This braying sheep on my TV screen
Make this boy shout, make this boy scream
Going underground
I’m going underground
I’m going underground
I’m going underground
la-la-la-la
(Oh) la-la-la-la
(Oh) la-la-la-la
(Oh) la-la-la-la
Braying sheep on my TV screen
Make this boy shout, make this boy scream
Going underground (going underground)
Well, if the brass bands play and feet start to pound
Going underground (going underground)
Well, let the boys all sing and let the boys all shout
Going underground (going underground)
Well, if the brass bands play and feet go pound-pound-pound
Going underground (going underground)
So let the boys all sing and let the boys all shout for tomorrowBijou DrainsParticipantAs a matter of fact the term I used (tosspot) is not as offensive as people think. There are two theories for the derivation of the term, one was that drunkards tossed their pots back and that therefore their conversation, speech or viewpoints could be disregarded as unworthy, or that described the most lowly servant in the household, the one who got the job of tossing (i.e. stirring the pot) so effectively being the most meanial servant of the grand lord or master.
If you consider Putin to be the Lord and Master and True Narcissist as his most humble and menial servant, describing him using the term I used would be pretty accurate and not as offensive as is often thought. As to the other explanation, I’ll let others make that judgement.
Either way, in it’s correct usage, it is not as offensive as many of the epithets thrown around on this thread.

Bijou DrainsParticipantNobody knows, ‘cos we can’t see them!
Bijou DrainsParticipantTrue [moderator removed] states “Actually, law often works by precedent.”
Law which “works” through precident, i.e. Common Law Systems, is only one of three components of those legal systems. The other 2 elements are the Common Law and Legislation.
Common Law and composite Common Law Systems (where the use of precident is further more diluted) only make up 35.17% of global legal systems.
To state that law often (Collins Dictionary Definition – frequently or repeatedly; much of the time.) shows that True [moderator removed] knows as much about the law as he does about politics, history, economics, Marxism and Socialism, i.e. Sweet Fanny Adams
[Removed for Unnecessarily personally offensive]

Bijou DrainsParticipantAJ – “Did you ever answer why the name Wagner was chosen for the organisation, Hitler’s favourite composer?”
TN – “Don’t know, don’t care.”
TN’s first answer just about sums up all of his contributions to date!
Bijou DrainsParticipant“257,617 people were pledging to ‘strike’ on 1 December. How many actually did remains to be seen.”
Bet all of the energy companies were shitting themselves, not.
Bijou DrainsParticipantFrom that “reliable and unbiased” news source Russia Today??
Citing an anonymous source from the very “well respected” source Politico.
Bijou DrainsParticipantSo by the same logic, the energy companies are more culpable in making windfall profits from the energy crisis, part of which has driven the demand for an increase in the price of labour, which “the idiot” is complaining about.
Am I the only one who thinks that the quality of the capitalist lickspittals known as government ministers is at an all time low?
Perhaps it’s some kind of weird nostalgia but their equivalent from decades ago at least had a little more guile and cunning than these tosspots.
Bijou DrainsParticipantALB – “But, while we are discussing virtue signalling in relation to the World Cup, I wonder what the English team will do before the match this evening against Senegal.
I’ll be watching to see if can they take the knee and cover their mouths and make some hand signal without falling over.”
Sounds a little like you’re a bit upset about the match against Wales, ALB?
Bijou DrainsParticipantPutin mobilises God but Ukraine has a response!
The Church of England is showing solidarity with Ukraine. Putin will be terrified.
All we need now is for the Pope to mobilise The Legion of Mary and the Catholic Women’s League!

Bijou DrainsParticipantRodshaw- ” I think some of the people who professed no religion still believed in angels, spirits etc. ”
To my way of thinking that is not an issue, in the same way that some people think their lucky underpants will help their football team to win, or that saying hello to a magpie when you see them is not an issue.
Politically these superstitions are not the same thing at all as being part of an agreed doctrinal code that sets out the actions and reactions the individual should take, instructs through a leadership group and usually requires subservience to the invisible god (the nature of who is usually decided upon by a politically motivated church/cult leader).
Irrational thinking is very common for most human beings; most of it is pretty harmless. I for one don’t like putting new shoes on a table (my Mam used to say that). Logically that would make no sense because shoe shops often have their new shoes placed on a table and you don’t see shoes shops spontaneously combusting all over the place, but I still try and avoid it. That doesn’t mean that I would follow a religious cults instructions as to live my life.
Bijou DrainsParticipant“You forget America’s powerful aircraft carrier fleet (23)”
TN – No, I don’t. They’re sitting ducks for Russian submarines and hypersonic missiles. And they can’t act as ports.
“and of course what George Orwell called Airstrip One – the UK – with its extensive American airbases.”
TS – UK ports can also be vaporised. Ipso facto, no US tanks arriving in Europe.
I’m afraid you are a complete fantasist, perhaps you should spend more of your time playing “Call of Duty” and exercising your knuckles.
Bijou DrainsParticipant“Hell, the American capitalist regime has more than enough firepower on its own to defeat the Russian capitalist regime”
TN – Lol, you forget about that ocean that needs crossing?
LOL,, You forgot, I think you’ll find that fighter aircraft these days can actually fly!!
With in air refueling, the Lockheep Martin Raptor could get across the Atlantic in less that 16 hours. This is in addition to the Raptors already based in Europe and the hundreds and hundreds of 4.5 Generation Fighters available across Western Europe.
Interestingly the US is replacing it’s very capable Fairchild Republic A10 tank buster with Raptors, squadron by squadron, as the Raptor is even more capable that the A10.
As to the reported 300,000 conscriptees and their impact on the war. Besides the considerable time involved in actually arranging the call up of the poor members of the working class being dragged into on the Russian side of intercapitalist dispute, which may take several weeks at least, training an infantryman takes about 14-16 weeks. Given that most Russian men will have been part of the 1 year national service requirement in Russia, the estimate to ready for the meat grinder is between 6-10 weeks, so the whole process is likely, at best, to start to have an impact at the eariest March or April. However the logistics also require that the new conscriptees have training bases and army training staff to carry out the role, which will mean that the process would take much, much longer.
Putting this into some context, the Iraqi army numbers at the start of the 2nd Gulf war was around 370,000 soldiers plus around 75,000 Iraqi Guards. The numbers that Putin is attempting to put into the field are about the same and the equipment is not that much more sophisticated
Bijou DrainsParticipantInteresting that you have failed to answer the first part of the question!
So basically every source you quote is correct (including the demonstrably incorrect Grover Furr, the confused quasi Maoist Michael Hudson, who thinks that Minneapolis was a Trotskyist city and works in the 263rd best ranked university in the USA and Scott Ritter who left anyone intelligence circles 20 years ago and who was definitely out of touch with events whilst he was serving 18 months in custody after being found guilty for child sex offences)
In comparison to this any source quoted which is contrary to your view is, in your view, to be immediately rejected on the basis of ‘cos I say so”.
Going back to my first question, will the 12 Russian 5th Generation fighter aircraft shoot down the 362 similar US planes, just because you say so?
Bijou DrainsParticipant“**$276 billion** in planned spending on **weapons systems alone**”
TN replies “And if that money is frittered away on overpriced junk?”
But what if some of that $276 billion, for just one example, has been spent on 5th Generation fighter aircraft, and what if it buys 362 of these aircraft, and what if the opposing force only has 12? And what if 80 years of military history shows that air superiority is the crucial factor in modern warfare?
And another question you might ask yourself is:
“What is the motivation of some of those claiming NATO weakness and lack of weapons?”
Is there not a possibility of some of this coming from the agents of multinational arms manufacturers?
