What would be useful is to see ideas on this thread being translated into definite resolutions for our ADM and Annual Conference so that activity is actually initiated.

TS, the similarity that evades you is that both the USA and Russia are applying basically the same type of law to persecute journalists.

Reports of North Korean arm supplies and earlier reports of offers to send ‘volunteers’ to either fight or engage in construction, may indeed be totally fake news. However, such disinformation also suits the Russians as a means of scaring the West of the potential of escalation.

At least the Guardian journalist won’t get 22 yrs jail time for the reporting.

    >>>No regularly updated presence on things like YouTube and Instagram for example. Not that there are any silver bullets, but you could do something about that. Or you could just sit about here moaning and moping. It’s up to you<<< In my own defence, I maintain our blogs which are almost daily updated but receive little if any interest or promotion from our own members so why should the general public bother with it. Even this very forum lacks involvement from most of out members. I have written articles for non-SPGB websites such as Countercurrents in India and Dissident Voice in North America. I have tried to give help albeit limited to Marcos to circulate Spanish-language articles. We are a voluntarist organisation and we each individually do what we can when we can and where we can. And there is the problem of burn-out. But let us be brutally honest, we cannot even fill our vacant party positions and the burden of running this Party rests upon the backs of too few members undertaking multiple tasks. And it isn't improving but growing worse. Are we any different from our closest comparisons? The ICC and its associated groups, the anarcho-communists of ACF and AF, the syndicalists of the IWW and the IWA, the non-party groups such as The Zeitgeist Movement and the various moneyless advocates. Are we performing worse than even our political foes on the Left, the Trotskyists, the M-L-ists? Weekly Worker makes depressing reading of all the attempts of bringing life back to left-wing? Remember the Left Unity campaign? Whatever happened to it? Where have all the Corbynists gone not they don't have a home in the Labour Party? From my encounters, they are also suffering from a serious case of ennui and apathy. We are not alone and any answers must come from analysis across the whole of the Thin Red Line as John Crump termed our Impossiblist tendency and tradition.

Just to clarify, I did not assert that I deeply KNOW anything.

What I wrote was “I suspect there is a deeper level to be explored to find the reason why some political ideas appeal more to our fellow workers”

There can be no denying that our socialist message has failed to resonate with our fellow workers. The facts speak for themselves.

I want to KNOW why that is because,IMHO, our case for socialism is so strong as to be incontestable.

We are in an epoch where we have access to a mass audience in every part of the world, yet our progress has not been evident.

In the past, the party would plead poverty despite a wealth of wisdom but we are now a relatively prosperous organisation.

The question we have to ask ourselves and try to identify is why we have not succeeded to communicate with and convince our fellow workers.

I’m not sure you are 100% correct.

Radical populist right-wingers who are not politicians and have no government experience, Trump, for example, never been tried or tested and with a failed business career, presented themselves as figures for great change.

I don’t have a ready answer, but I suspect there is a deeper level to be explored to find the reason why some political ideas appeal more to our fellow workers,

Primarily, I believe nationalism is one influence.

    Racism as well

    Religion too.

Not much has really shifted in 100 years.

    The same old shibboleths.

Rumpole of the Old Bailey on the picket line?

Barristers in England and Wales are starting an indefinite, uninterrupted strike, in an escalation of industrial action over pay which began in April.

The Criminal Bar Association (CBA) walkout is likely to worsen existing court delays, with tens of thousands of cases already waiting to go to trial.

The CBA wants a 25% rise in legal aid fees for representing defendants who could not otherwise afford lawyers.

Germany’s air force is currently participating in a military exercise on the other side of the globe, in Australia, where it has sent six Eurofighter jets… in addition to the fighter jets, four transport aircraft and three newly acquired air-to-air refuelling tankers have been sent to Darwin in northern Australia.

    https://www.dw.com/en/germanys-military-ramps-up-presence-in-indo-pacific/a-63005063

Germany is already planning to participate in a series of exercises next year in Australia, this time with its army.

It also announced the navy’s return to the Indo-Pacific, with an entire fleet unit.

the German government noted an increasing “strategic competition for influence in the region” and stated that “the Indo-Pacific is becoming the key to shaping the international order in the 21st century.”

The EU SAID the “current dynamics in the Indo-Pacific region” have “given rise to intense geopolitical competition, adding to increasing pressure on trade and supply chains as well as in tensions in technological, political, and security areas…”
