    WORLD SOCIALIST PARTY (NEW ZEALAND) – GENERAL ADMINISTRATIVE COMMITTEE

    Meeting held via mobile telephone at 51 Weymouth Road, Manurewa and 15 Tanera Crescent, Wellington

    DATE:                         Sunday 5th October 2014.

    CHAIRPERSON:       M Gribble.  Moved M Grayson, 2nd C Matene.

    OPEN:                        2:25pm.

    PREVIOUS MINUTES/ERRORS & OMISSIONS/MOVE & ACCEPT:

    Previous minutes received and read.  No errors or omissions.  C Matene moved the minutes be accepted, 2nd M Grayson.  Previous minutes accepted.

    DISCUSSION ARISING FROM PREVIOUS MINUTES:

    1.     Watched “Backbenches” on television this week.  No opportunity to visit the bar where the program is filmed.

    2.     Pamphlets left over from the recent election can still be distributed.

    MOTIONS OF WHICH NOTICE HAS BEEN GIVEN:

                None.

    CORRESPONDENCE INWARD & OUTWARD:

    1.     Email received from the Socialist Party of Canada – Their newsletter for October received with thanks.

    2.     Email received from Shilong Yang through the website.  Would like some information on Socialism.  Forward to contact secretary to follow up.

    3.     Email received from the World Socialist Party of India – Minutes of their October EC meeting received with thanks.

    RATIFICATION OF MEMBERSHIP FORMS:

    None.

    REPORTS OF SUB-COMMITTEES:

    None.

    TREASURER’S REPORT & ACCOUNTS TO BE PRESENTED:

    Treasurer’s report presented.  Bonus bonds investment had a win.  M Gribble moved the treasurer’s report be accepted and any outstanding accounts to be paid, 2nd C Matene, all in favour, treasurer’s report accepted.

    LITERATURE SECRETARY’S REPORT:

    Socialist Standards for October have arrived and is a particularly good issue, with some of the articles worth copying and enlarging for handing out.  Journals will be posted to subscribers in the next day or two.

    NEW NOTICES OF MOTION:

    None.

    GENERAL BUSINESS:

    1.     Recent NZ elections – Capitalism won 121 – 0.  What a travesty!

    2.     Discussion on making Socialism more visible in NZ.  People still don’t understand what Socialism means.  There is an article about cleaning up the word ‘Revolution’.  Our revolution is through the ballot box.  Go back to Harmo’s quote which simply sums up what Socialism is and isn’t.

    3.     Send letter to Niki Hager about citizens being spied on in NZ.  We already realised what was going on even though it was firmly denied.
