Women and children

I’ve noticed that, in much of the reporting of Israel’s ongoing destruction of Gaza, the media (led by the UN and Hammas perhaps) tend to join women and children together. Women and children, we are told, are particularly undeserving of being murdered [unlike men is the subtext]. The other subtext is that we should regard women in the same category as children. As a feminist, I object to women sharing the child category. As a socialist, I object to the notion that men’s lives are worth less than women’s and children’s. Just a thought for socialists to consider every time we hear the media group women and children together. All lives are equal surely.

i dinnae think it’s a femmo thing. i think it’s pointing out that men might be combatants whereas women and children are very unlikely to be. of course, it might be that hamas has a battalion of death. bit difficult fighting wearing a horse blanket and blinkers though innit. in contrast, the idf is a fully integrated fighting force whose lasses are just as happy to kill and eat puppies and kittens as their male counterparts. as a feminist i definitely fink you should support genderneutral jizzrael. (as an aside, my ex-, who will probably be reapplying for membership sooner or later, secretly supported the afghan war for those sort of treasons).
