So, his silence was telling, as the war in Gaza raged, clearly the old man was ill. reports came out in the last week or two about his condition, that he had been ill for sometime. It is currently being reported (but not from utterly reliable sources) that he has died today.
Personally, I’d file Chomsky into the category of people you had to at least disagree with, and show your workings. The propaganda model was a classic of pragmatic approaches to structural issues in the media: he deserves credit for his opposition to the Vietnam war, and actually being prepared to go out and campaign.
Criticism, for his pragmatism (up to and including supporting US forces in Syria against ISIS), his aggressive debating style, wading into complex areas.
But, he was a public intellectual, who defined his own discipline (lets see if science advances one funeral at a time).
