“They’ll never play this on the radio”, he says near the end, and you can see his point.

Now, for a more feel-good song (about nuclear war).

I Melt with You by Modern English
(I don’t fancy her, but this song makes me think of Greta Thunberg)

Don’t Lose my Number – Phil Collins

The music video is almost never shown on TV, which is strange because it’s one of the best.

Not an underplayed classic as such but one of the best TV ads of all time IMHO – plus a great riff from Stiltskin.

Brown-Eyed Handsome Man – Buddy Holly (originally by Chuck Berry)

Best lyric: Marlo Venus was a beautiful lass, she had the world in the palm of her hand. She lost both her arms in a wrestling match to meet a brown-eyed handsome man. She went and won herself a brown-eyed handsome man.

“Marlo Venus”? I have always understood this to be “Milo Venus”, as in the Venus de Milo, who does indeed have no arms.

    – Rod Shaw

You’re right. It was the lyric website that got it wrong. I should have noticed it was “Milo Venus”, because of the gummy Venus de Milo from the Simpsons’ episode: “Homer Badman”. Isn’t it pronounced: Meelo?

It’s good to know other people are listening to these songs, and I’m not just posting them for myself.

    Buddy Holly by Weezer

This has a superb music video, to boot.

Most people pronounce Milo as my-low rather than meelo, I think.

Another Weezer track. They’re a great band. In this one, I like the way you’re never quite sure where the first beat in the bar is.

Thanks for posting that other Weezer song, Rod. I only knew their song ‘Buddy Holly’, but will definitely check them out, after listening to ‘Island in the Sun’.
