I’m always wary of joining in these sorts of campaigns: the right can enjoy them just as much, after all, in a fascist dictatorship, there are o corrupt MPs.
Lets remember, payment of MPs was a chartist demand, and MPs do need to earn enough to be independent.
Lets not forget, that free school meals is a means tested benefit: why not free food for all children? Let’s not get played by Labour’s “The Poor are always with us” schtick.

I have a vague memory as a little kid of this being played out.
James: is the idea of herd management back on their books… Sterilise the unproductive, the criminal and the dependant!
Take away the food and we become compliant, or more docile to idealogical induction due to nutrient denial.
Give my ability to reproduce for a bowl of soup. Yet it seems to go against market numbers- big numbers requires population growth.

This was a big issue at the time the party was formed in 1904. The first issue of the Socialist Standard in a article in “Physical Deterioration” pointed out;
“We are told that over 100.000 school children in London alone go breakfastless to school. For them there is little hope for a sturdy manhood. Arrest the progress of physical deterioration amongst the children through the provision of meals by the State to all school children and you will do much to strengthen the physique and stamina of the race.”
Why is it still a problem 116 years later?
Not because the Tories are the nasty party and seem to revel in it but because capitalism is the nasty system.
It has been an issue for too long.
Are the wigs the Tories don made of real real human hair? Kind of upset the idea of Tory vs Whig.
This issue should not be argued in any democracy- food should not be political- not ever.
If food is political in capital- then food security is a commodity.
Some of us live on a diet of shite and onions, some live on lobster, and some live on air plankton.
It is still a problem 116 years later because the mode has not changed.
