Is the problem pensioners?
Was decoupling pensions from wages the bets move the Tories ever made. Seen at the time as a way of cutting pension costs, has it in fact created the the sort of dole voters they always accuse Labour of trying to create. Only three Tory seats have <50% home ownership (and they are in Central London, where Grosvener Estate homes are leased by the ultra wealthy).
But with the cost of living low in some areas, inflation low, and the pension triple lock in place, are the Tories farming a clientalist vote. Such people will proudly say, they “Worked their whole life”, they earned what they have, the foreigners are getting all the council houses (they don’t want nor need). etc.
