There is a problem of interpretation of all rules but how is rule 6 to be interpreted?
That a 'subject' should not be repeatedly discussed?
The the Object and Declaration of Principles may only be posted once on the forum?
That capitalism puts profit before people needs only to be said once
Or should it be used only for obvious nuisance postings? Or perhaps nuisance posters.
January 10, 2015 at 1:26 pm #107401AnonymousInactiveCan someone confirm that reposting articles on the forum from the Socialist Standard (for example) is not to be allowed? What about other publications?
January 10, 2015 at 3:11 pm #107402DJPParticipantThe correct way to comment on an artilce in the Standard or the website is to go to the page you want to make comment on then either press 'comment' or 'view comments' at the bottom of the article. That will redirect you to the automatically generated thread in the comments section of the forum.Copying a whole article from the Standard and pasting it into the "general discussion" section is not the correct way to do it….
January 10, 2015 at 3:17 pm #107403AnonymousInactiveThanks for the reply DJP, but who decided it was the 'correct' way. And are other ways not allowed?
January 10, 2015 at 3:37 pm #107404DJPParticipantSee Rule 1. I didn't decide the rules two other comrades did and then it was ratified by the EC. Commenting on a Standard article goes in the "comments" section not "general discussion"….
January 10, 2015 at 3:41 pm #107405AnonymousInactiveI don't see how rule 1 prevents someone starting a thread and cutting and pasting a small article fro the SS or any other publication. Niether rule 1 or rule 6 prevents this.

Am I being pedantic? I do not read the Standard, on-line and I do not always have the time to read the "comments" section. Iread the offending article in Gen. Discussion and if Vin hadn't posted it there, I may not have read it yet. If rules are to be made, please make them concise, so that people like me and Vin don't fall foul of them………….. thankyou.
January 10, 2015 at 9:30 pm #107407moderator1Participant1. The general topic of each forum is given by the posted forum description. Do not start a thread in a forum unless it matches the given topic, and do not derail existing threads with off-topic posts. The above rule covers this issue. 'Forum description ' means the separate forums, I.e. General, Technical, etc.
January 10, 2015 at 9:38 pm #107408AnonymousInactiveFor clarification sir, who is off topic? And who is derailing? Please forgive my impertinence in asking grovel
January 13, 2015 at 12:18 pm #107409SocialistPunkParticipantAt the risk of being "off topic", the statement below comes from the guidelines for moderators, from the link found in the "Indefinite Suspensions" thread, post #11.11. Socialist discussions are wide ranging. ‘Off-topic’ is not rigidly interpreted, and moderators allow some side discussions that are clearly related to the main discussion and only intervene if they begin to lead the thread entirely away from its given topic.
