"…DEMONSTRATE: against racism, for migrant rights, against fascist violence – on the day after the EU referendum

The EU referendum has unleashed a torrent of racism. Migration has been attacked and scapegoated by both campaigns — with Leave stoking up bigotry against immigrants and Remain responding by capitulating and echoing that bigotry.

This tone of anti-immigrant politics has not been set by the far right. It comes from the mainstream parties and the mainstream media, who have spent 20 years insisting that immigrants are a “problem”. The UKIPs of this world just clean up in their wake.

Our ruling class has opened a Pandora's Box of racist rhetoric around migrants and allowed a space to open up in groups and individuals influenced by fascist ideology. Far-right political violence is becoming increasingly commonplace. The fascist riot earlier this year in Dover and the assassination of pro-migrant Labour MP, Jo Cox, are symptoms of this drift.

We need to take a stand against this — whatever the result of the referendum this Thursday. Migrant or non-migrant, we stand together as friends, lovers, work colleagues and members of our communities. Together we keep our collective wheels turning: we stand side-by-side and share our lives.

We will not allow a wave of xenophobia and racism to threaten our lives and wellbeing. Join us on the day after the referendum vote to show solidarity with all migrants and defiance in the face of racism – whether it comes from the far right or the “civilised” ruling class.
