Is this about to be the next phase of the war – against Iranian troops invited into Syria

January 21, 2019 at 9:18 am #177291ALBKeymasterDo they have to wear a hijab and be accompanied by a male relative? Does seem very efficient as a fighting force to me.

Female battalions in Iran
January 23, 2019 at 3:33 pm #179951ALBKeymasterThe photo in the link answers one of my questions. But unless they are wearing ceremonial uniform what they are wearing would be a hindrance in combat conditions. But it could still be worn for police duties arresting other women for not wearing the hijab that’s illegal in Iran.

I have seen the North Korean female military parades and I recall Gaddafi had an all-female bodyguard or palace guard.
I also heard from an ex-SLL/WRP member when he was at one of their “White House” conventions he saw Gerry Healey in the company of a strikingly attractive young woman and when he asked who she was, he was informed she was his driver, not the burly bodyguard he would have expected him to have.

She probably became one of the Healy’s victims.
February 4, 2019 at 4:31 pm #183178ALBKeymasterSeemingly accurate article (unusual for Fox News, I know) on why some Westerners have gone to Syria to fight with the Kurdish nationalists:
February 4, 2019 at 9:08 pm #183186ALBKeymasterIf the Kurdish Nationalists are “anarchists”, the Syrian Arab Nationalists are “socialists”:

Whatever next.
October 10, 2019 at 11:27 pm #190954PartisanZParticipantIt looks as if the USA has ceded control again and ditched its ally.
The BBC has degraded it to a FAQ
October 11, 2019 at 9:41 am #190959ALBKeymasterYes, one moment you are living in relatively peaceful conditions leading an ordinary life. Next moment a state sends in its trained killers to ethnically cleanse you. It seems that the Kurdish nationalists overplayed their hand by trying to establish a mini-state which included a large Arab minority, always potentially a fifth column just as the Kurdish minority in Turkey are. The idea of the “nation” state encourages ethnic cleansing and they all do, or did, it.
Interesting background article here on the “Kurdish Question”. Not that developing an effective Kurdish nationalism is the thing that can save them — the emergence of yet another “effective” nationalism would just make things worse for everybody in the area, with more ethnic cleansing and discrimination against minorities who find themselves in the “wrong” state.

The same troops are going to be sent to Saudi Arabia
October 24, 2019 at 7:59 pm #191139ALBKeymasterThis conviction on retrial, after the US-led Coalition has dumped the Kurdish militia to please NATO ally Turkey, can’t be a coincidence following his non-conviction at a previous trial when the militia were the Coalition’s allies:

Hypocrisy and realpolitik know no bounds.

US troops are not leaving Siria, they are sending tanks to ‘protect’ the oil fields. They are the world babysitter, wherever they place their boots they never leave
