October 12, 2024 at 12:23 pm #254363chelmsfordParticipantBring back the clay tablet. Or the scroll.
Have you got the scrolls?
No, it’s just the way I walk.October 12, 2024 at 12:57 pm #254364Thomas_MoreParticipantObviously, you never loved books.
October 12, 2024 at 5:07 pm #254365robbo203ParticipantA painting by this geezer. Quite clever I thought….
It says on FB
“Paweł Kuczyński (Poland), a graduate of the Fine Arts Academy in Poznań, has been awarded more than 140 prizes and distinctions for creating thought-provoking illustrations that comment on social, economic, and political issues through satire.”

You will perhaps not be so pleased that people can pay by card using one of those new-fangled card readers.
October 18, 2024 at 11:09 am #254432DJPParticipantJust saw this one YouTube. I think he has some good points. TM will like it.
October 18, 2024 at 2:22 pm #254435Thomas_MoreParticipantYes. Thank you. The main point is made in The Shallows.
I think ALB should view it.

December 4, 2024 at 7:29 pm #255405CitizenoftheworldParticipantlaw schools are increasingly using digital books, with most students having access to electronic versions of legal textbooks through platforms like LexisNexis, allowing them to read and study case law and other legal materials digitally on computers or tablets; many law libraries offer extensive digital libraries with e-book access.
Key points about digital books in law school:
Wide availability:
Most law schools provide access to digital legal texts through platforms like LexisNexis and Westlaw, offering a large collection of e-books.
Benefits of digital format:
Students can easily search, highlight, and annotate text within digital books, making studying more efficient.
Accessibility:
Digital books can be accessed from anywhere with an internet connection, allowing students to study on their laptops or tablets.
Some still prefer physical books:
While digital books are becoming more prevalent, some students may still prefer traditional paper textbooks for reading and note-taking.most medical schools are increasingly using digital books, with many libraries focusing on electronic collections and significantly reducing their physical print book holdings, allowing students to access textbooks and learning materials primarily online through digital platforms; this trend is due to the convenience of 24/7 access and the ability to integrate digital features like search functions and annotations.
December 5, 2024 at 12:28 am #255412Bijou DrainsParticipantFollowing on from the point that CitizenoftheWorld makes, online versions of books on Law and Medicine (and many other disciplines) make perfect practical sense. A Law text book is out of date. effectively, before it is published (especially in Common Law Jurisdictions) and they are not cheap. Students are increasingly ripped off by publishing houses which quickly produce new editions which effectively make worthless the expensive editions they have just bought.
December 5, 2024 at 1:41 am #255414CitizenoftheworldParticipantThe future of education is going to be online education or long distance education, and several universities have already implemented that type of program including Harvard. UNAM in Mexico has a very good online education program. Argentina is one of the pioneer in long distance education
Textbooks are being dictated and they can be listened using a headphone, lectures can be seen and listened using a projector on 4k and they can be recorded and listen while you are traveling and you can do your homework while you are traveling, lectures can be listened several times, you never miss one class. Welcome to the digital world

December 6, 2024 at 5:02 pm #255490Thomas_MoreParticipantA lifelong lover of printed books, like William Morris btw, were I a teenager or in my twenties I would be distraught at their disappearance (which doesn’t bother people on this forum). Fortunately, I’ll be dead before books disappear, and I have hundreds, and can still obtain those I want.
