Socialists of North Wales
Group Meeting
23rd May 2012
at “The Palladium” Wetherspoons, LlandudnoThose present:
Lucy Chard
Jonathan Chambers
Darrell Whitehead
Gareth WhitleySummary:
The meeting commenced at 1900 with those present introducing themselves.
Those present opened with a discussion of motivations for joining the Socialist Party of Great Britain (SPGB) rather than other political parties. Those present also discussed issues surrounding increasing awareness of socialism; public promotion; understanding of current United Kingdom’s political system.
Motions Carried:1. J.CHAMBERS moved that the group should not address each other as “comrade” or other similar forms to ensure that discussion within the group remains obviously friendly and open to people that may be interested in discussion or joining but, would otherwise be put- off by unfamiliar language.
D.WHITEHEAD seconded. Subsequently, the motion was carried with unanimous support.2. G. WHITLEY moved to suggest that it should be a priority of the group to find new and more “organic” ways of developing understanding, knowledge and support of socialism by a greater number of the worker class in our region. It was suggested by D.WHITEHEAD that we could look into methods of activity that involves art, outdoors and other popular activities.
J.CHAMBERS and L.CHARD offered a second and third to the motion. The motion was subsequently carried.Future Meetings:
Until further notice, all further meetings will take place at the Llandudno Wetherspoons on the 3rd Wednesday of each month to begin at 7pm. Those present discussed the potential for having meetings in different places along the region if numbers show that there is sufficient demand. The meeting closed at 2135.
