FreeCharter FAQ’s are hilarious. Ok, not really, but we’ve heard all the objections before.
My favourite is ‘Is this a cult or religion?’

I never heard of the Free World Charter. Sadly most workers would see a Moneyless Society as totally unthinkable. What happened to the Zeitgeist Movement? They seem to have vanished. Btw has anyone seen this?

    The future looks grim…

Probably recorded Zoom meetings wasn’t what this thread was intended but just came across this and am posting this here so I don’t forget about it. Yet to watch it but the content seems relevant enough.

This is a panel discussion entitled “Envisioning a Socialism for the 21st Century”. Participants include Andew Kliman. No doubt there will be much to disagree with, but worth a watch to see what other people are saying at the moment.

I think the Free World Charter, like the Moneyfree Parties in various countries is an offshoot or product of the Zietgeist Movement. Meanwhile Peter Joseph soldiers (and sometimes rambles) on.

There is also the “Moneyless Society” FB site which seems quite active. I posted something there a few days ago which got 248 likes and 168 shares – easily my most “successful” FB post. The group currently has 24.1K members

I watched that “Free World Charter” video again.

I appreciate that there’s a subjective element with these things but I’m actually surprised people liked it. The production and presentation is tacky and the actual argument is ass backwards. At least the bit “Let’s imagine…. underwater cities!” is of comedic value.

The video mentions freedom. Why not start there? The idea of Socialism as a society non-domination has a lot going for it both in terms of how to express a critique and also in terms of how to motivate people.

The vast majority of people are dominated by a minority group not because of the existence of money, but because that minority own and control access to the means of production. “These guys are fucking us over, and this is why and what we can do about it” makes for a stronger political message. No?

There’s this TED talk by Jade Saab at Edinburgh University:

    http://www.ted.com/talks/jade_saab_a_world_without_money

Of course we are not out just to “abolish money”. It’s to replace a society whose economic system gives rise to money (as a result of separate ownership of resources and production for sale). What we want is a society of common ownership with production directly to satisfy people’s needs — which makes money redundant.

This said, people who already have no problem with envisaging a society without money ought in principle to be more receptive to socialist arguments.

Incidentally, elsewhere Saab declares himself to be a member of the IWW.

Excellent video ALB. The majority of comments are positive. Difficult to know if you’re being trolled though? Biggest laugh I got was,‘Socialism doesn’t work, only right wing capitalism does.’ Then, capitalised, Read a book.’ What book might that be then?

Not a video but a book that I’ve just come across doing an internet search. Have we heard of this guy before?

The more you search the more you come across people on our sort of wavelength -whether in book form, article form, or video form even if the terminology might be sometimes quite different…

It’s a big world out there and there are more and more reasons to be cheerful. We are not as alone as we might think

It is true, only pessimists do not understand that situation

There are many organizations and individuals who are also rejecting and questioning Leninism and state capitalism wrongly called socialism
