    The Russian war economy discussed

    https://www.aljazeera.com/opinions/2022/10/26/russias-military-keynesianism

Why some Russians will support the war as they become part of the “labour aristocracy”.

Millions of Russians who are either mobilised to fight in Ukraine, employed in reconstruction or in the military industry, or participating in the suppression of unrest in the occupied territories and at home, or are family members, have turned into direct beneficiaries of the war.

Such statements appear to run counter to our position that workers have little to gain from the war, but recall WWI and WW2, the high wages arising and the resulting economic boom. But it is not sustainable. (I’ll add the caveat of the women and unskilled to entered industry did change society)

Even Corbyn couldn’t overcome the Unite union’s defence of its members jobs over the Trident nuclear submarines. Leftwinger Len McCluskey supported making and maintaining warships (and other “defence” work) as jobs for his members. No doubt his successor, Sharon Graham. another Leftwinger, will take the same position, not that she will have to challenge the Labour Party leadership over the issue. They are fully committed to militarism.
