Proxy wars before this never involved one of the puppet-masters’ countries itself being targeted: not the Korean war nor the Vietnamese war etc. Now, this is different.

Just heard on the news that Russia was not invited to the D-day event today but the old USSR and its army was represented by …. Ukraine. This despite the fact that there were probably Ukrainians fighting with the German army to resist the landing. Our rulers and their media must take us for fools. In 1944 it was Uncle Joe and the valiant Red Army. Today it’s Putin the evil dictator and his brutal army while Ukraine is good. True, Zelensky’s grandfather fought with the Russian Army against Nazi Germany but there are others in his regime who see pro-Nazi Ukrainian nationalist Bandera as their hero.

In France, Belgium and Switzerland, supermarket foyers have racks of French-language history-themed comic books. Here too, in the 1970s, these were appearing in English, as well as toys. In the Anglophone world all these history-themed comics and toys (excepting the Asterix books) disappeared at a stroke when the stupid Star Wars movie came out, and were replaced with fantasy.Everything, everywhere, all at once!

It seems these days ubiquitous nationalism is appearing and causing so much conflict: both within and between countries… dare I say ‘nations’.
What does it mean: more war-war.
