May 3, 2024 at 1:59 am #251963Thomas_MoreParticipantMore talk of sending troops to Ukraine.
May 14, 2024 at 9:32 pm #252060Thomas_MoreParticipant” We are bringing Ukraine closer to and then into Nato,” Mr Blinken said in his speech.”
BBC News.May 19, 2024 at 9:50 am #252112Thomas_MoreParticipantA new front likely to open?
May 19, 2024 at 12:15 pm #252114ALBKeymasterOf course the US and its allies are subsidising bogus NGOs with a view to trying to bring in a friendly government. Russia too no doubt with a view to maintaining in power a friendly government. These are the sort of intrigues that used to go on in the Balkans in the first half of the last century (and the assassination attempt on the prime minister of Slovakia the other day suggests they still are).
I noticed this:
Russian troops currently occupy some 20% of Georgian territory
This will be in two breakaway areas inhabited by non-Georgian speakers. It is looking like that is the way the Ukraine war could end â with Russia continuing to hold what it has occupied and Ukraine (and the US and its allies) having to accept this fact on the ground without recognising its legality.
May 23, 2024 at 1:24 pm #252166Thomas_MoreParticipantLithuania wants Washington to lift restrictions on long-range missiles to Ukraine which could strike deep inside Russia.
May 23, 2024 at 10:45 pm #252173Thomas_MoreParticipantStockpiling for war?
Last year the testing of an alert signal on all our phones; this year survivalist stocking of goods. Nothing explicit, but war “preparedness” likelier than “covid/pandemic” preparedness, which has no need of these type of alarms.https://www.express.co.uk/life-style/food/1902893/Everyone-ordered-7-Tesco-Asda-Sainsburys-Morrisons

NATO allies are inching closer to sending troops into Ukraine to train Ukrainian forces, a move that would be another blurring of a previous red line and could draw the United States and Europe more directly into the war.7 days ago

May 25, 2024 at 7:56 am #252237ALBKeymasterBy way of contrast:
So the ball is in the Westâs court. But they donât really want an end to the conflict. The USâs stated aim from the start has been to weaken rather than defeat Russia by keeping it bogged down in a never-ending war. But they might have to compromise as theyâll soon be down to the last Ukrainian.
May 25, 2024 at 8:00 am #252238Thomas_MoreParticipantOr Macron will send troops and the warmongering Baltic states will urge NATO on right into total war.
May 25, 2024 at 8:39 am #252239ALBKeymasterHave you never heard of sabre-rattling as a branch of diplomacy?
May 25, 2024 at 8:54 am #252240Thomas_MoreParticipantExcept that all this stuff about stockpiling, phone alerts, needing to prepare, etc. is being told to us, the workers here, not being told to Putin.
May 25, 2024 at 2:26 pm #252244ALBKeymasterMeasures to soften up the population to accept increasing state spending on weapons of individual and mass destruction, probably in fact also aimed at the Russian government in accordance the doctrine that âif you want peace, prepare for warâ. Which has a certain perverse logic under capitalism. And one reason why resources will always be wasted on preparations for war and disarmanent remain a dream as long as capitalism lasts.
May 26, 2024 at 12:27 am #252249Thomas_MoreParticipantAfter insisting a few weeks ago that the draft is not on the cards, now it is coming back!
