They don’t do humour here Lizzie.
Yeah, that hadn’t escaped my attention TS 🙂

lol. You’re not very attentive then. A certain supporter of Russian capitalism here has been the butt of some excellent humour – and rightly so – in case you hadn’t noticed
March 16, 2023 at 10:55 am #241555chelmsfordParticipantYou see, next thing you know those pesky Natostanis will be coming over here opening sweetie shops on every other corner and bumming off the welfare.

TS has certainly been the butt of repetitive abuse whereas I’ve received more than a fair share of sexism and misogyny. Your little sect needs to seriously fine tune your sense of humour – you never know, you may then be finally able to influence people and make a few converts. Fewer than 300 members after 119 years of existence is hardly anything to shout about.

“Pot” and “kettle” are the words that spring to mind there in his – and your- case. And why, anyway, are you jumping to the defense of an authoritarian nationalist supporter of a capitalist warlord and one who gleefully talks of turning fellow workers into “fertilizer”? Are you of like mind perhaps?
March 16, 2023 at 11:25 am #241560Lizzie45BlockedI’m not jumping to the defense of anyone, Robin. Just telling it like it is.
March 16, 2023 at 11:26 am #241561TrueScotsmanBlocked“Russia has spent months pummeling the country with missiles, seeking not only to cause destruction but also deplete Ukraine’s air defense stocks. Ukrainian soldiers have described acute shortages of basic ammunition, including mortar rounds and artillery shells. And upwards of 100,000 Ukrainian forces have died in the year-long war, U.S. officials estimate, including the most experienced soldiers.”

When mainstream American media is finally admitting 100,000 dead Ukrainian troops, you know the real number is double that. So come on you bunch of dumb fucks, tell me how wrong I am about casualty figures!
March 16, 2023 at 11:47 am #241562Bijou DrainsParticipantSo you think it’s ok to make casually racist remarks Lizzie?

——————-How is that relevant to what socialists are talking about, eh? You obviously support the death cult that is capitalism but socialists look upon the obscenity of modern warfare and the mass murder of thousands of workers from a completely different standpoint. Not a single drop of working-class blood is worth shedding for the cause of capitalism, let alone the blood of 100,000 workers or whatever the actual figure is that you armchair military strategists like to debate about…

I don’t know, because it’s a reflection of reality. You know, that thing that’s going on around you? Having only a half dozen brain cells I’m sure the significance of such a thing escapes you.

Exactly! Well said Lizzie.

____________________________lol. For someone who has the nerve to insult other people about having “Having only a half dozen brain cells” – Lizzie where is your self-righteous condemnation of TS and his “repetitive abuse” or is it only the SPGB you’ve got it in for?” – you sure know to miss the point, don’t you?
What I was questioning the relevance of was academic debates about precisely how many combatants on either side of this stupid capitalist war have been killed when the real issue should be how to stop this pointless slaughter from the standpoint of the working class.
You are never going to get an accurate picture anyway. The Ukrainian capitalist state lies. The Russian capitalist state lies. And so too do their respective supporters.

March 16, 2023 at 10:00 pm #241577alanjjohnstoneKeymasterAs the moderator, I have always tried to convey the need for civil exchanges and to bring an end to juvenile name-calling.
Just how many times have I evoked Rule 7, “You are free to express your views candidly and forcefully provided you remain civil. Do not use the forums to send abuse, threats, personal insults or attacks, or purposely inflammatory remarks (trolling). Do not respond to such messages.”
Such remonstrations have had little overall effect.
We are a small group, and we have never tried to hide that fact, disclosing our membership numbers each year.
But those who disparage us for low numbers when we host them on the forum, permitting them to freely express their political opinions, I find somewhat ungrateful.
March 16, 2023 at 10:26 pm #241578ALBKeymasterI wonder how they would treat an objector who invoked socialist reasons for not wanting to be called up:
Interesting though.
The authorities in Ukraine have adopted a different approach:
March 17, 2023 at 12:22 am #241580alanjjohnstoneKeymasterHaving succeeded in reconciling Saudi Arabia and Iran, has China’s initiative got any chance.
China’s foreign minister urged Kyiv and Moscow to restart peace talks “as soon as possible,” saying Beijing fears the conflict “could escalate and get out of control.”
Beijing “hopes that all parties will keep calm, exercise restraint, resume peace talks as soon as possible and return to the track of political settlement,” Foreign Minister Qin Gang told his Ukrainian counterpart Dmytro Kuleba in a phone call.
The call was the first official talks between the pair since the Chinese foreign minister took office in December.
Beijing last month published a position paper on Moscow’s war in Ukraine, calling for dialogue and seeking to position itself as a neutral mediator.
China’s Foreign Ministry said that Qin had reiterated his support for that proposal during the call, saying Beijing had “upheld an objective and just position on the Ukrainian issue, committed itself to promoting peace talks and called on the international community to create conditions for peace talks.”
Meanwhile, Kuleba tweeted that he and Qin discussed the “significance of the principle of territorial integrity” for Ukraine in a joint call.
