All of these movements without exception have ended up fully embracing capitalism. Some of them ended up even worse than their erstwhile colonial masters (with whom many of them continued to do business) in their degree of corruption, and repression of the local workers and peasants.

Putin did everything possible to avoid the conflict. Put simply, Kiev lost all right to rule over its Russian speaking minority when it attempted to ethnically cleanse them from the east. The population of the liberated regions happily voted to rejoin their historic motherland. Are you going to deny them agency and object?
