The war now is taking place in the heart of what was, a century ago, the most emancipated of European regions, the Makhnovshchina Free Territory – an anarchist-communist stateless region in which workers and peasants had made for themselves the closest-to-real-socialism the conditions of time and place could render possible.
Now look at it. Nationalism, massive destruction, worker against worker at the behest of two opposing capitalist interests.
Evidence that we demote and devalue history at our peril.

Putin will of course demolish the new Makhno statue, which will have been shortlived.

It says: ‘Join the IAC for live discussion with anti-fascist Ukrainians on the 2014 massacre at the Odessa House of Labor and the continuing struggle. April 28, 2022 at 4:54 pm #229078AnonymousInactiveAll these Stalinists, Leninists, and leftist groups have an obsession with Nazism and Fascism, now they have created a new concept named: Post Fascism. In Chile president, Boric was elected based on that conception, it is a new toy of the left
April 28, 2022 at 5:35 pm #229079Thomas_MoreParticipantPost fascism is getting bills and red notices through the mail.
April 28, 2022 at 5:38 pm #229080Thomas_MoreParticipantPutinist logic:
Ukraine has neo-Nazis. Solution: blast cities and town to hell and kill thousands of poor people, making others homeless.Who is the Nazi?
Even if your neighbour were a neo-Nazi, does that mean you should kill him?
The Leftist answer is yes. That tells us much about Leftists.

April 28, 2022 at 6:18 pm #229085ALBKeymasterA lot of the Greeks in Ukraine speak Russian not Ukrainian and so are persecuted by the Ukrainian nationalists. Some support Russia.

April 28, 2022 at 6:25 pm #229087ALBKeymasterIn view of Truss’s war aim of pushing Russian troops out of the whole of the Ukraine including Crimea, it is not surprising that the headline in today’s Times is “Truss fears Ukraine war could carry on for years”.
I am not sure, though, that “fears” is the right word. It should be “wants”. As that’s how long it would take to achieve her declared war aim. It is also unlikely to be achieved without NATO boots on the grounds and an exchange of tactical nuclear weapons by both sides.
Fortunately, diplomats from other countries regard her as a crackpot. As indeed she is if that’s what she wants.
April 28, 2022 at 7:53 pm #229088ALBKeymasterI see Truss called her war-mongering speech “The Return of Geopolitics” declaring that “geopolitics is back”. But when did it ever go away in relations between the Great Powers as they compete to dominate sources of raw materials, trade routes and investment outlets and to control strategic points and areas to do this?
And of course it well explains the NATO-Russia War in Ukraine.
April 28, 2022 at 8:09 pm #229089AnonymousInactiveSince they can not use the original concept of fascism which is extreme nationalism and apologist of the dictatorship of one party to lead
They’ve have created a new concept labeled as post fascism and they are using it in order to get the attention of the working and creating a new fear against the popularity of the right wingers which are using the failures of the left to take political powers
There are neo nazis and neo fascists composed of small groups and most of them do not have the sane conceptions of the original fascists

8,000 British army troops will take part in exercises across eastern Europe in one of the largest deployments since the cold war. Joining them will be tens of thousands of troops from Nato and the Joint Expeditionary Force alliance, which includes Finland and Sweden. Troops from the Queen’s Royal Hussars have been deployed and will be embedded in an armoured brigade in Finland. Exercises alongside American troops are also taking place in Poland.
April 29, 2022 at 1:37 am #229098AnonymousInactiveThe Antifascists want to combat Fascists with Fascism
The SPGB has had public meetings with Fascists and Nazis and their ideas were combated with ideas instead of violence
