The war will almost definitely pass on to Moldova next.
If NATO does push toward a Ukrainian victory, then surely Putin will lose his guarantee that Ukraine won’t join NATO?
April 26, 2022 at 10:42 am #228999Thomas_MoreParticipantRussia keeps repeating threats of nuclear war and WW3. The US does not.
Isn’t this because Russia has nothing else to threaten with?
How seriously should we worry?April 26, 2022 at 11:51 am #229000OzymandiasParticipantDon’t poke the Russian Bear someone said. Is this the prelude to the end game of “Humanity”? A destructive virus that has brought the Earth thousands of years of never ending war, pillage, pollution, rape, murder and death.
We inhabit a “Civilisation” where weapons technicians develop land mines disguised as children’s toys then formulate ever more hideous weaponised baccili through chemical means of causing agonised death. All for a paycheck. It’s disgusting.
As I said to my old man a few weeks before he snuffed it, I don’t label our behaviour as Capitalism. It grew out of us. It is us. We are the system. The whole sorry lot of us.
Thankfully I live right in the middle of the City Centre. If the despots finally achieve the messianic wet dream of billions of devoted Muslims Jews and Christians by finally blowing this beautiful planet up to fuck then hopefully I’ll be vaporised. Immediately. The Earth won’t miss me. Or any of us.- This reply was modified 2 years, 8 months ago by Ozymandias.
April 26, 2022 at 11:58 am #229002Thomas_MoreParticipantIt’s looking ever more likely.
Do the mass murderers really think they’ll be ok down in their bunkers, and what about their wealth, with all us proles dead and gone? How many of us do they propose taking underground with them, as their workers? And where will the resources be?
April 26, 2022 at 12:24 pm #229003OzymandiasParticipantIt was the tiny burrowing marsupials and other seemingly insignificant lifeforms which survived the Chixculub extinction event 66 million years ago.
When the Billionaires and their lessers in the Millionaire club run out of provisions and crawl up out of their luxury shelters they’ll all be fucked. Fame and fortune will be meaningless in a nuclear winter.
Yes they will have had a stay of execution only to emerge into the planet as a mass cemetery. Cue the next phase of evolution which will have commenced the minute the bombs are dropped. Surely to fuck the Capitalists are not so dumb as to let this nightmare happen? Perhaps we might be lucky and avoid arnaggedon this time. But what will the situation be like in 5 or 10 years time?- This reply was modified 2 years, 8 months ago by Ozymandias.

April 26, 2022 at 12:38 pm #229005Thomas_MoreParticipantAnd after Ukraine, we’ve got the Pacific (sic!) situation waiting!
April 26, 2022 at 1:03 pm #229008Thomas_MoreParticipantThey keep playing with the idea of a “limited” nuclear war they imagine they could survive. But even an exchange in one area (say, India vs Pakistan, or just Europe) would cause a global nuclear winter.
April 26, 2022 at 1:53 pm #229011Thomas_MoreParticipantIt’ll be the first mass extinction engineered by a single species.
April 26, 2022 at 2:26 pm #229027alanjjohnstoneKeymasterIt would be acceptable for Ukrainian forces to use Western weapons to attack military targets on Russian soil, a UK defence minister has said.
James Heappey said strikes to disrupt supply lines were an “entirely legitimate” part of war.

April 26, 2022 at 3:37 pm #229035ALBKeymasterThere speaks a military man (though probably out of turn). But then he will also understand, as “entirely legitimate” from a military point of view, Russia’s bombing of railway hubs, oil depots, storages, etc (and any collateral damage to civilians) and leave it to the Ukrainian propaganda machine to describe this as “genocide”. As the Russian Foreign Minister has said, war is war.

April 26, 2022 at 5:07 pm #229041alanjjohnstoneKeymasterRussia’s defence ministry has warned of an immediate “proportional response” if Britain continues its “direct provocation” of Ukraine to strike targets in Russia
Russia’s defence ministry said: We would like to underline that London’s direct provocation of the Kiev regime into such actions, if such actions are carried out, will immediately lead to our proportional response.
As we have warned, the Russian Armed Forces are in round-the-clock readiness to launch retaliatory strikes with high-precision long-range weapons at decision-making centers in Kyiv.
The ministry added that if such Russian strikes were made, it would not necessarily be a problem if representatives of a certain Western country were located at those “decision-making centres” in Kyiv.

https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2022/4/26/ukraines-persecuted-roma-community-joins-war-effort
Despite being persecuted and marginalised throughout Ukraine’s history, the Roma minority – an estimated 400,000 people – have contributed enthusiastically to the war effort.
Ukrainian media outlets have not been too proactive in reporting the Roma community’s efforts.
When the war ends, Roma service members who survive the conflict will return to dirt-poor communities where barriers to social integration remain and where the pace of change is glacial.
