I’ve only just run across this post by Alan on the Socialist Banner Blog
“Mali troops and Russian mercenaries allegedly executed around 300 civilian men over five days during a military operation in a central town, Human Rights Watch (HRW) said. The killings took place between March 27 and 31 in Moura, a rural town of around 10,000 inhabitants in the Mopti region.”
This brings starkly to light the doctrine of worthy versus unworthy victims: the horrors of Bucha are (justly) emblazoned over the world, but slaughter in Mali is not by an official enemy (nor within UK colonial spheres of influence) so it is quietly ignored: much as the recent murderous attack in Tigray.
The UK press can bring a laser light focus to the doings of official enemies, and a studied silence over friends and neutrals. I’m almost surprised that the presence of Russian mercenaries hasn’t been used to make up a story of what bestial devils the Russians really are. Give it time.

April 7, 2022 at 8:50 pm #228545robbo203ParticipantApril 8, 2022 at 1:21 am #228546AnonymousInactiveThere were also reports that the Russian were punching the fuel tanks of the war tanks I do not know if it is true
Ukrainians were also feeding the Russians soldiers and others reports said that the Ukrainians were giving poisoned foods to the Russian soldiers
Ukrainian were also attacking the Russian soldiers with cocktail Molotov
There are many reports that must be taken with a pinch of salt

April 8, 2022 at 6:49 pm #228579Thomas_MoreParticipantSick military mind.
On the debris of a missile which blew up people at a crowded rail station in Ukraine today, is written “For the children.”
April 8, 2022 at 7:18 pm #228580AnonymousInactiveEither side could have written that message
April 8, 2022 at 7:28 pm #228581Thomas_MoreParticipantI didn’t say which side. I said it expressed a sick mind.
April 8, 2022 at 7:47 pm #228582Thomas_MoreParticipantThere is being skeptical for the right reason, and there is being skeptical for a skewered reason. One is being aware that both sides are using propaganda. The other is falling into the mistake, like many leftists do, that “our side” propaganda is necessarily the falsest.
Maybe Ukrainian forces do fake Russian atrocities, but the circumstances must be plausible for saying so. The fact is, Russian forces are turning residential blocks into shells and blasting cities, and it is ludicrous to suppose that the Ukrainians are doing that themselves, in Mariupol, Kyiv, Kharkiv, etc., as the Russian govt. would suggest.
You can’t blast cities into ruins and then say you’re not targetting civilians. Is it plausible Ukrainian nationalists are staging publicity stunts? Yes, perhaps. Is it plausible the mass shelling of their own towns is done by them? I think not. Peskov says everything is blamed on Russia. It’s equally absurd to say Ukraine is to blame. Soldiering is debasing, whichever army it is.
April 8, 2022 at 8:09 pm #228583ALBKeymasterYou are right that if the message in Russian meant that the bomb was intended to kill children then that would be the work of a very, very sick mind. There is a suggestion that it translates as “for our children” — which suggests that it might have come from the Russian separatists in revenge for Ukrainian bombs killing their children.
Found this since posting the original message:
“Debris from one of the rockets could be seen lying on the grass near the station. The message in Russian “Za detei”, meaning for or on behalf of the children, had been daubed on the missile in white.”
“Tracey German, a professor in conflict and security at King’s College London, said: “За Детей in Russian means ‘for children/for the children’ – exactly what is meant by this is unclear, but it does not mean ‘intended for the children’, rather ‘on behalf of/to avenge children’, I think.”
Is there a Russian-speaker in the house?

April 8, 2022 at 9:21 pm #228590alanjjohnstoneKeymasterThe fully anticipated consequence of the war on the food chain is now taking effect and it is guaranteed to grow even more extreme.
We won’t be seeing the same urgency in the supply of food as we have in the supply of weaponry.
Nor will we witness the same degree of sympathy as the hungry go on the move in search of food.
The deaths of children, the old and the ailing will practicably be invisible to the media.
Soon this topic will be deserving of its own thread.
As will the failure to contain climate change with the return to fossil fuel energy.
The casualties from both these spill-overs will far exceed those of the war itself.
April 8, 2022 at 11:15 pm #228591Thomas_MoreParticipantI seem to recall seeing footage from Vietnam, and from WW2, where bombs being loaded on planes by U.S. troops have messages on them, such as “Happy Xmas” and other things.
April 8, 2022 at 11:52 pm #228593AnonymousInactiveThey wrote messages on torpedoes for the Japanese and Israel wrote messages on misiles for the Palestinians
The Ukrainian government suggested civilian to make cocktail Molotov to be thrown to the Russian soldiers
In a few days the USA army who have destroyed a few Ukrainian cities like they did in Iraq and Korea
April 8, 2022 at 11:56 pm #228594AnonymousInactiveIn Ukraine more than 14 millions of chickens were wasted
April 9, 2022 at 12:15 am #228595AnonymousInactiveI didn’t say which side. I said it expressed a sick mind.
——————-
It was a commentary that I made. Both sides have committed horribles things. I do not trust the propaganda of either side including the newspapers of the leftwingers
