Russell Brand just liked my post, on his video, re-wages.
Is he contactable? I am wondering what are the prospects of holding some sort of discussion meeting with the guy
Why not suggest a Q and A article for the Socialist Standard?
I doubt he would do so, believing it might be seen as a partisan endorsement of ourselves.
But try we are the eccentric Impossibilists who want to abolish money and countries and approach. He might be intrigued enough to respond.
We have been here before. In 2014 after the publication of his book Revolution. The Open Letter below caused a bit of a controversy in the Party with some mebers dismissing him as a poseur. I don’t think he is, though he certainly had been in the past.
Yes I agree with Alan – it is worth a try contacting Brand to entice him into a response, We have nothing to lose
Incidentally what happened about contacting that free-market libertarian in America who has criticised the SPGB?
Russell Brand is doing his show at the Brixton Academy on Monday 30 May. Doors open at 17.00. Anyone here up for leafletting the event?
I post things about us on celebrities’ youtube pages, FB pages, etc., but never any response. I suggested us on Ricky Gervais’ youtube, but my comment was removed in under two minutes, while all the other comments remained. Maybe one isn’t allowed to provide links there though, and that could be why.
I tried handing Brand a copy of Socialism or your Money Back years ago. I put a note in it saying ignore the word Socialism if you want. I also made him up a mix tape of music. You’ve got to get his attention.
The guy means well but he’s all over the place. A debate/interview/Q&A (not on Discord) between Brand and the WSM would be a great opportunity.It seems the mainstream media are trying to get their revenge on him for his criticism of them, by publicising allegations against him which may or may not be true.
They may have picked a tougher nut than usual to expose (while at the same time increasing their sales and/or advertising revenue) as he has quite a following who agree with him about them. Like his social media followers he is a bit of a conspiracy theorist himself or at least gives these some credence. The media campaign will be seen by them as confirming what he says.
Sorry,to suggest it’s motivated by “revenge” buys into the conspiracy theories that do the rounds on the right.
As if the allegations weren’t bad enough, Brand must be squirming at the declarations of support offered by his new best buddies, Fox News host Tucker Carlson, Elon Musk, GB News, and Andrew Tate, who ‘wants to tell the truth about what’s happening to Russell Brand’, portentously informing everyone that ‘I know things I shouldn’t know.’
With friends like that, who needs enemies?
And to think, that only a few years ago, a group of sycophantic SPGB’ers were doing their level best to cosy up to the vile and misogynistic Russell Brand, presumably in the vain hope that he might be able to hasten the socialist revolution.
In my humble judgement this whole Brand thingy has been cooked up by the Tory press and others simply to allow our Lizzie to have yet another pop at the SPGB.
If, as it seems, there is a hard evidence trail for what happened in California, he’s looking at 5-8 years in a secure penitentiary for rape.
Good looking lad like him might need to be careful in the showers, he could end up with a hoop like a clown’s pocket.
However, given what he’s accused of, it might be an appropriate come uppance, if you pardon the pun.
