I see from my MSN newsfeed that "The UK bank accounts of Russian TV broadcaster Russia Today have been shut down, its editor-in-chief has said, in a move that appears to have been sanctioned by the UK government." The link is here
Yes I know that, as a mouthpiece of the Russian capitalist state, RT can be irritating at times. But it is no more biased and partisan than the BBC, Sky News, CNN and the rest and some of its programmes are not only interesting but make some very telling points against the utter hypocrisy and blatant misinformation sometimes sometimes put out by Western governments
On the face of it this seems to be a deliberate and calculated attempt to, in effect, curtail freedom of speech. Does anybody have any more information about what exactly is going on here. It seems to be quite a disturbing development

The newspapers in Spanish have more information about this incident than the newspaper in English. The only thing that I know is that while we are wasting time in this forum, the world is getting more dangerous, it is getting more dangerous than during the time of the cold war. Just one atomic bomb is enough to destroy the whole world, the planet, and all human beings. The US imposed an embargo on the Japanese capitalist class, and they responded by dropping bombs in Pearl Harbor, The US and Great Britain are putting pressures on the capitalist class of Russia, and anyone of them can respond with an attack. We are not living under the times of WWII when the Western Empires had the monopoly of the military weapons and the others countries had kitchen knifes and machetes.

Even a limited nuclear exchange between India and Pakistan alone could absolutely decimate global agriculture for a period of up to 10 years, according to one calculation I came across , because of the severe climatic consequences. Gawd forbid that there should be an exchange between the main nuclear powers. We will all be well and truly stuffed. It alarms me greatly this absolutely irresponsible warmongering and macho militaristic posturing. Of course it is easy to say there is nothing to gain from a nuclear war, since we will all have lost, and therefore it will not happen. But that assumes a rational approach to the whole question and that we wont be sucked into some vortex of insane irrationality and jingoistic hysteria. I am not 100% confident that this wont happen.

In Iraq the US army dropped several Mini Nukes. I know that war does not happen because of an accident, but in a couple of occasions the Automatic Alarm system of the US and Russia had a malfunction, and both were ready to launch their missiles. The USA has more than 800 bases around the world. Most workers trust in the capitalist class, but I do not trust in the capitalist class, they will do anything to keep their system running
October 18, 2016 at 10:36 pm #122586alanjjohnstoneKeymasterA few years ago we saw Iran's Press TV kicked off cable and satellite television providers. We shouldn't be surprised at the manipulation of media by the authorities.I have asked elsewhere, what is the difference between East Aleppo and Mosul, other than the media representations of those assaults on the two cities.

Besides the radio they had Progress Publishing who was publishing many books of Marx and Engels and Lenin for 0.25 centsI used to listen to Moscow Radio almost every radio using a shortwave radio, and my grandfather was a permanent listener of that radio, and Peking Radio, and Tirana Radio, all of them had broadcasting in several languages, by listening to those radio is how my grandfather came to the conclusion that the Soviet Union was not a socialist country, and still there are a bunch of intellectual who do not know that. This is a different type of competition between Great Britain and the USA and Russia, now Russia is openly a capitalist country looking for spheres of influences in the Middle East, before the Western empires did not dare to put any embargo on the Soviet Union, they had a bigger territory and influences around the world.

October 19, 2016 at 1:49 am #122591OzymandiasParticipantOur horrible cheating, lying, thieving, manipulating, torturing, murdering, devouring, exploiting, conniving species is going to extinguish itself. Why even bother labelling this situation by calling it Capitalism? We created the fucker in our own image. It's our baby. Forget the "Working Class" saving the planet. That's a fuckin pipedream. No such thing as human nature? You could have fooled me. Blaming it all on "Capitalism" is a fuckin cop out. CAPITALISM IS THE HIDEOUS MANIFESTATION OF…US.
October 19, 2016 at 2:20 am #122592alanjjohnstoneKeymasterAnd so is the life-boat crew who go out into a stormy sea to rescue folk they don't know, and, do you know, there is a waiting list of volunteers ready to risk their lives. And what about the mountain rescue teams?Or your own mother who scrimped and saved to put a warm jacket around when you were a kid. Or all those charity workersYup, there are many manifestations of …us. There is a book by Colin Turnbull, the Mountain People…that really describes what happens when social bonds entirely breaks asunder. https://www.amazon.com/Mountain-People-Colin-M-Turnbull/dp/0671640984But you are not the only person who has this pessimism of the human character. I came across this Polish writer who had gone through the concentration campshttp://mailstrom.blogspot.com/2013/02/tadeusz-borowski.html

The cunt died two years ago and not a moment to soon. She typified what I hate about "humanity". A virus which includes "parents" who use their own children. She was a sometime party member and also a user, a liar and a manipulator. For your info on top of that for several years I was sexually abused starting at the age of 9 by another party member who shall remain nameless. So don't talk to me about the milk of human kindness. The party as an edifice shall remain blameless because it has tried it's level best to change perception in the past 120 years…to no avail. From what I can see all we've had for the past 10,000 years is a pathetic litany of violence, slavery, genocide, rape, exploitation and misery caused by human greed. I don't imagine it was a bed of roses in "primitive Communism" either. Trying to dress all this up as being caused by this or that "ism" is a cop out. The problem is US. Just watch this latest film by Adam Curtis to see how we've ended up… http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p04b183c We are well and truly fucked.
October 19, 2016 at 10:58 am #122594alanjjohnstoneKeymasterMy apologies if i inadvertently offended you. That was not my intention. However, i will not accept that my fellow workers can be described as you wish them to be depicted. I have witnessed compassion and empathy as much as i have witnessed hatred and division. IPlayer is not available to non-UK residents but it is available herehttp://www.filmsforaction.org/watch/hypernormalisation-2016/But this expresses some of the estrangement folk feel in a shorter cliphttps://youtu.be/VASywEuqFd8

I do feel really sorry for the opinion that you have about your family. I have a different opinion about my father and my mother, my mother is my Queen, and she lives like a queen because she deserves it, even more, my father left houses for all of us, and we have given them to her. They worn sandals in order tor us to wear Flosheim, my father died and she never get married again, she said that she was married to him forever, she says that she is still married to him. They were two into one, and we were part of that, and my grandfather was part of their unity. My grandfather was also my father too. I have not way to pay them back what they did for me in my life, everything from them was enjoyment, and that helped me to go thru my life. When my father died he smelled like an old dead body and I embraced him despite that, it was like a big tree laying on the floor, and still i remember him every day, and i built for him a big pantheon, and my name is next to him,, although I have donated my body to Medline. Parents and family are very important in our life. I will never abandon my parentsI have been married to the same simple beautiful girl that I met many years ago, the older she gets more beautiful she gets too, and their example helped me to do that. The Indians a society that I have studied had the same concept about their family, and when the invaders destroyed their family it was the destruction of them too, and most of them grew up without a family I do not think that one person can be blamed for the whole mankind, and I have met many peoples who have done many things for mankind without requesting a penny from them,
October 19, 2016 at 6:22 pm #122597Dave BParticipantThere is another report from the bbc webb site as below. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-37697474 Not heard or seen anything on the radio or tv apart from one quick item on an on the hour radio four news similar to the above. They took Iranian press tv off cable and satellite in the UK a few years ago. The webb site is another useful resource or other ‘opinions’ or interpretation. RT news in several serial programmes invites and welcomes the neocons and advocates of the standard western position etc to discuss and debate and challenge the Russian perspective etc eg crosstalk , the Okrana woman and Sophie one. As well as offering platforms to the ‘left’ eg going underground and even gorgeous Galloway. As well as bog standard finance and capitalist economic programmes like boom and bust and even people like Max Kaiser. The situation does look like world war one replay with an emerging economic power blocs challenging another. The US is facing down Russia as a more manageable problem than China and for that matter the rest of them. It looks like the Philippines, like maybe Turkey? is switching allegiances to another family and Don. There was an brief article elsewhere pointing out the double standards as in the Guardian. Which ran an article celebrating the attack on Mosul to liberate it from ISIS and on the next page running the standard critique of Russia/Syria doing the same thing in East Allepo; even on what is almost certainly going to be on a smaller and less catastrophic scale. And the idea that it is OK to provide no fly zone safe havens for east Allepo terrorists; but having to bomb and invade Afghanistan to prevent it becoming a safe haven for terrorists. And Saudi dictatorial head-choppers bombing Yemen. The US press secretary had to admit that there were problems with the "precision and planning" of some of the Saudi’s more obviously murderous bombing operations. As there was when the Israelis bombed Gaza as a right to defend itself against ‘terrorists’ letting of sending puny rockets into their patch. As to human nature etc if you brutalise human beings enough they will tend to become monsters themselves. And as general greed is good etc the capitalist media will make all us after their own image as any other image is a critique of themselves.
