ParticipantTo Just Stop Oil, a question no one is asking:
Why do they keep picking on Van Gogh? Of all the great artists, he had the purest soul and was the least mercenary, never painted portaits of the aristocrats, worked only from love and pain and lived in poverty.

ParticipantAnd is this the Socialist response, comrades?
1. Throwing food about when people are starving.
2. Choosing the artworks of proletarians like Van Gogh as targets.
Guess if you saw a down-and-out street artist being pelted with muck, you’d join in?

Participant“No, painters’ oil is not the same as petrol:
Composition
Painters’ oil is made from natural oils and pigments, while petrol is a petroleum product. No matter what you may have heard, artists’ oil colors are made using vegetable oil as a vehicle and binder. This has been true from the very beginning.”

KeymasterThey’re giving up (or at least say they are). They claim that this is because they have achieved their goal of stopping further drilling for oil and gas in the North Sea. In fact they had nothing to do with this being suspended. If it does prove to be permanent it will have been achieved through the ballot box by electing a different government— but, as we know, governments, especially Labour ones, tend to be forced to renege on their promises (if only because they make bigger promises than the Tories). If the “economic headwinds” prove sufficiently strong the government could easily end the suspension.
Mind you, neither is Roger Hallam, the guru behind JSO, to be trusted not to renege on what he says.
In any event when Extinction Rebellion, of which JSO was an offshoot, was set up in 2018 it announced that, if greenhouse gas emissions continued, 2025 would be the point of no return, the beginning of a period in which millions and millions of human would die from the effects of climate change. They didn’t manage to achieve that aim of stopping that supposed point being reached.
In their giving-up statement JSO say:
“So it is the end of soup on Van Goghs, cornstarch on Stonehenge, and slow marching in the streets. But it is not the end of trials, of tagging and surveillance, of fines, probation and years in prison.”
This is typical of how direct action groups end up — concentrating on trying to get released those who have ended up in prison. Which is all they will now be doing.
The record of JSO has been entirely negative. They got many of their naive followers jailed. And their antics provided the state with a reason to invoke for bringing in further legislation to limit protests. They won’t be missed.

ParticipantClassical painters never used oil made from petroleum, they were made from organic seeds and for the pigments they used minerals. Some modern oil paint tube are made from petroleum but it is the only medium provided by the modern industry
I hope they are not going to destroy the beautiful paintings made by Michelangelo at the Vatican church, and to destroy them because they belong to the Catholic Church, the whole thing is an artistic creation of arts and arquitecture
They might try to destroy the music of Mozart, Beethoven, Bach, and others classical musicians and opera singers because their CD, Tapes, and Vinyl LP are made from petroleum.
These so called revolutionaries do not know that our problem is capitalism and the mode of production, the only thing that they can obtain is to be sent to jail by the bourgeois legal system
