Peruvian lawmakers have voted to oust President Pedro Castillo, dramatically escalating Wednesday’s political crisis that began hours earlier when Castillo attempted to dissolve the legislative body and install an emergency government.Congress began its session on Wednesday with lawmakers singing the national anthem. A majority of 101 lawmakers in the 130-person congress later voted to impeach Castillo, with the body announcing that Vice President Dina Boluarte will be sworn in as the new President of Peru.
The vote sent a clear message of defiance after Castillo announced plans for early parliamentary elections to work on a new constitution in a televised speech from the Presidential Palace, which also prompted a string of cabinet resignations and fiery reactions from top officials.

Peru president has been arrested. There was another Latin American president who orchestrated a self coup but he survived it because he played in a different way, and he was a skillful right wing politician, and then several years later he became president for more than 12 years and he was placed in power by the US government, he had served them for more than 30 years and he knew how to maneuvers the police and the military. Castillo did not have that type of support
December 12, 2022 at 5:02 am #237836alanjjohnstoneKeymasterTwo people have died and four have been injured during protests in Peru demanding general elections following the ousting of former president Pedro Castillo over his attempt to dissolve Congress. Demonstrators, many of them Castillo supporters, have for days demanded that Peru hold elections rather than allow Boluarte to stay in power until Castillo’s term ends in 2026.
Thousands of demonstrators took to streets across the nation again on Sunday, including hundreds in Lima, the capital, where riot police used teargas to push protesters back.

Meanwhile, Amnesty International urged the Peruvian authorities to avoid using “excessive force” in response to the demonstrations
Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador backs Castillo. He highlighted that the results of the elections should be respected and that Castillo should not have been removed from office. Obrador told reporters that the ousted Peruvian leader had won democratically and thereby could not be removed from being president. He stated he would continue to regard Castillo as Peru’s leader.
The governments of Mexico, Bolivia, Colombia and Argentina jointly urged for the protection of Castillo’s personal and judicial rights.
