Interesting piece on BBC website today – can our social media users make use of this? ‘Health cannot be left hostage to profits’ – report
As we’ve touched on already there is a report out from the Independent Panel for Pandemic Preparedness and Response, looking at how the world is dealing with the pandemic and how prepared it is for another one.

One of the most striking concerns raised in the report is about the control of vaccine and medicine patents by the pharmaceutical industry.

The Independent Panel for Pandemic Preparedness and Response
The report says “the promise of this collaboration has not yet delivered adequate access to Covid-19-related products or technologies everywhere they are needed”.

And it adds that despite an “overwhelming majority of countries supporting a waiver of intellectual property rights” to help vaccine distribution, global agreement on this has still not been reached.

The report concludes the next six months will be “critical”, says vaccine coverage alone cannot end the pandemic and calls for a renewed commitment to multilateralism.
