One of our leafletters reports that one of the candidates for the mayor of London was outside Brixton tube station too the other day. Andreas Michli, standing as an independent, but apparently to promote his body-building gym in Wood Green. Hence his slogan “Make London Strong”, meaning make Londoners strong.
Anyway here he is strutting his stuff:
He obviously thinks that paying £10,000 (the election deposit which he is unlikely to save) is good value for money in terms of his business.
April 4, 2024 at 8:45 pm #251481ALBKeymasterOur election leaflet on twitter (or whatever it’s called now):
Greater London Assembly elections are taking place on Thursday 2 May 2024. We are contesting two of the constituencies — Barnet & Camden in North London and Lambeth & Southwark in South London giving 870,000 electors the chance to reject capitalism. April 4, 2024 at 8:48 pm #251482ALBKeymasterApril 4, 2024 at 8:49 pm #251483ALBKeymasterHope these links work for everyone if members and sympathisers want to repost them.
April 5, 2024 at 11:00 pm #251489ALBKeymasterSo far we have distributed or sent out for distribution over 5,000 of the leaflets, roughly half in each constituency.
The other parties don’t seem to have started leafletting yet, apart from the Labour Party whose leaflets have been found in parts of both constituencies.
Tomorrow at 1pm members and sympathisers meet at our premises in Clapham High Street to hold a street stall and distribute some more of the leaflets.
April 6, 2024 at 10:06 pm #251495ALBKeymasterMore leaflets were distributed today in the borough of Barnet today, in Friern Barnet.
Meanwhile, south of the river, a total of than 500 were distributed in Clapham High Street and in Streatham Hill
Yesterday, part of Abbey Road NW8 was leafletted though not the part where the Beatles were (that’s in Westminster not Camden). 400 leaflets were distributed through letter boxes in Vauxhall.
Other areas leafletted so far are Finchley, West Hampstead, Holborn, and Camden Town in Barnet & Camden and Kennington and West Dulwich in Lambeth & Southwark.
A handful will have been mistakenly distributed in neighbouring Islington, Westminster and Wandsworth. The boundary between boroughs is not immediately evident until you notice the name on the dustbins. But that’s not really a problem as the wording and QR are relevant anywhere in Greater London.
April 8, 2024 at 9:56 pm #251521ALBKeymaster200 were distributed yesterday in Clapham Common and 200 today in Streatham Vale. In the latter voters will be confronted with 4 ballot papers — one for the mayor, one for the party lists, one for the constituency, and one for a local by-election being held the same day.
We’re standing in the constituency. The ballot paper for this will be yellow. If you want socialism vote for the socialist candidate on the yellow ballot paper and write “I vote for socialism” on the other ones.
April 9, 2024 at 7:44 pm #251536ALBKeymaster900 distributed door-to-door this morning in that part of Brixton that falls into the parliamentary constituency of Dulwich and West Norwood. At one end is Dulwich Village and Dulwich College private school. We were at the other end — Atlantic Road and Coldharbour Lane, the centre of the 1981 Brixton Riot, pictured here at the time:
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/1981_Brixton_riot#/media/File%3A1981_Brixton_Riots.jpg
Once again, the only other leaflets seen were from Labour.
April 10, 2024 at 7:30 pm #251552ALBKeymasterHere is our Green Party opponent in Lambeth & Southwark. Typical wishy washy stuff — “be nice to people” and “community in her heart”. Noble sentiments no doubt but how naive can you get in face of capitalism?
April 10, 2024 at 8:45 pm #251554TwigletParticipantClaire’s counterpart in Barnet & Camden — similarly…green

Maybe if Bill requests an ‘interview’, he might get a few lines in a future issue?
Would he would need to dye his barnet red first?April 11, 2024 at 9:49 pm #251561ALBKeymasterUntil today only about 200 leaflets had been distributed in Southwark. But today a further 500 were added in the area between Kennington tube station and the Elephant and Castle. This has been chosen as in it is an anarchist bookshop in Cranston Street SE17 . See http://www.56a.org.uk.
We didn’t expect them to agree with us or with voting but we donated various Party pamphlets by non-party writers (Morris, Lafargue, Pannekoek, Keracher) for their library. A vegetarian cafe at the other end of the street did take some leaflets for their customers to take.
The area turned out be of historical interest in that it contained the Pullen Estate of houses constructed for “the working classes” in the last decades of the 19th century which had been saved from demolition by tenants and squatters in the 1980. See
Today in London housing history, 1986: Pullens Estate squatters resist eviction, Walworth.
This was the first place where we came across leaflets other than the Labour Party’s. Perhaps unsurprisingly, from the Green Party.
April 12, 2024 at 9:03 pm #251575ALBKeymasterAnother 900 distributed today, 500 in Stockwell and 400 in Clapham Common.
Stall outside Head Office in Clapham High Street tomorrow from 1pm to 3pm.
April 13, 2024 at 8:55 am #251579ALBKeymasterThe Communist Party of Britain which is contesting the party list part of the election has published its manifesto :
https://londoncommunists.carrd.co/
Ed Griffiths has tweeted above saying that workers in the two constituencies we are contesting should vote for us for the constituency and for the CPB for the list. We don’t agree. How can someone who wants socialism vote for the hodgepodge of mostly unimplementable reforms they are proposing? We say just vote for us. If you are into reformism by all means vote for them but don’t be an oxymoron and vote for both us and them.
April 14, 2024 at 8:24 am #251582ALBKeymasterFive were out yesterday to run a street stall outside our premises in Clapham High Street from 11am to 3pm. The usual conversations with refugees from places which claimed to be socialist — in this instance Albania and Venezuela — and who thought that’s what we wanted. We tried to put them right. Also with a former member of the Workers Revolutionary Party (whose premises were further up the High Street) who had already voted Labour by post.
Perhaps a couple of hundred leaflets distributed but we are going to meet well before polling day our target of 15,000.
April 14, 2024 at 7:53 pm #251588ALBKeymaster500 distributed this afternoon in Childs Hill and the part of Cricklewood in Barnet. 400 more left with a local for distribution later.
