I wish that simple return- a kid who thought commodities was no reason to go to war…I am utterly perplexed- history repeating… and again.. and again. Again.

I just want to offer a little bit of hope. Back in 2003 i didn’t need to argue with my co-workers that the invasion of Iraq was simply about oil. For the first time, people realised the economic cause of the war and were not fooled by all the propaganda about freedom and WMDs. The socialist message that wars begin for economic reasons was accepted by almost everybody.

And then later when Cameron wanted to send troops to Syria, even Parliament did not consent.

Now British involvement in any military campaigns have to remain covert or fought by proxies.

    Thanks Alan,
War and commerce.. neither are needed. Both are a loss that we can cope with.
Hope is there, thanks, and the message continues in the most surprising of places!
Bloody hell, it is the eve of 2021- may our words flow.

I don’t think this time anybody is buying the pretext to start a war against Iran or Venezuela. Many peoples are abandoning the romantic and patriotic notions of wars and they are understanding that they have economic reasons

The government of Donald Trump is developing the same case as the pre war against Iraq orchestrated by George Bush and using al Qaeda as a pretext to launch a war against Iran before Joe Biden takes possession and also instigated by the chosen of jehovah known as Israel. Another war in the Middle East might be catastrophic for all the peoples in the region. When are the Yankees going to take a war break ?

The media will not, of course, categorise Israel as the aggressor war-monger but will maintain it is defensive, ready to go to war for peaceful objectives.

    https://www.reuters.com/article/us-nuclear-iran-israel/israels-top-general-says-its-military-is-refreshing-operational-plans-against-iran-idUSKBN29V2EX

Israel’s top general said on Tuesday that its military was refreshing its operational plans against Iran

“…I have instructed the Israel Defense Forces to prepare a number of operational plans, in addition to those already in place…”

The new US secretary of state saying American sanctions against Tehran will not be lifted until it comes back into verifiable “full compliance” with its commitments under the 2015 nuclear deal.

Antony Blinken said Iranian compliance would take some time, indicating there is unlikely to be any major movement in negotiations until after the Iranian presidential elections in June.

Are they trying to design the nuclear development talks with Iran to fail?

Macron says that any new negotiations should now include Saudi Arabia.

Why not go all the way and invite Israel, too.

    Biden refuses to lift sanctions

    https://www.bbc.com/news/world

The BBC omits some vital details.

Iran was in full compliance with the original agreement and was about to get the sanctions removed. Trump unilaterally reneged on the deal despite EU opposition to his actions. Iran then purposefully began to publicly breach the agreement as political pressure.

Since it was the US who first broke the deal, Iran expects them to repair the damage and is willing to return to the agreement but only if the US proves itself by honouring the earlier situation.

Is that the president that was going to move toward the left? Where is our Leon Trotsky who was saying that we are champaign socialist? There is not a president or state minister able to alter the economic base of a class society

It is the same president, MS, who says to the Saudis, we’re not going to arm you to defeat the Houthis in Yemen but we are still going to give you every weapon you need to defeat the Iranians. And whatever the Israelis might happen to do, is not in any way going to undermine support the president’s support for them. The US media seem to overlook that Israel is regularly launching attacks on Iran’s military in Syria.

    Guilt by association

“According to an unidentified country, North Korea and Iran have resumed cooperation on long-range missile development projects, including the transfer of critical parts, the monitors said. The most recent shipment was last year, they said.”

Anybody care to place bets on the identity of that unnamed country?

    And Iran’s reply

“…In a December 21 letter to the UN sanctions monitors, annexed to the report, Iran’s UN Ambassador Majid Takht Ravanchi said a “preliminary review of the information provided to us by the (experts) indicates that false information and fabricated data may have been used in investigations and analyses.”…”

An article picking apart Biden’s Iran policy

    https://www.commondreams.org/views/2021/02/15/biden-committing-diplomatic-suicide-over-iran-nuclear-agreement

On the campaign trail, Bernie Sanders, Biden’s main competitor for the Democratic nomination, simply promised, “I would re-enter the agreement on the first day of my presidency.”

In contrast, Biden hums and haws…expecting the party which was victim of the broken promise should make the first move and not the party which walked away from the treaty.

Yet again Israel’s nuclear weapons are ignored.

Israel is carrying out a major expansion of its Dimona nuclear facility in the Negev desert, where it makes the fissile material for its nuclear arsenal.

The Federation of American Scientists estimates that Israel has about 90 warheads, made from plutonium produced in the Dimona heavy water reactor.

    Looking for a pretext?

Netanyahu accused Iran of attacking an Israeli-owned ship in the Gulf of Oman last week, a mysterious explosion that further spiked security concerns in the region. Without offering any evidence to his claim, Netanyahu told Israeli public broadcaster Kan that “it was indeed an act by Iran, that’s clear.”

Israel’s defense minister and army chief had both indicated they held Iran responsible for what they said was an attack on the vessel.
