The September SS reviews a book by Jamie Merchant.
Here’s an interview with him in this month’s Brooklyn Rail: https://brooklynrail.org/2024/10/field-notes/john-clegg-with-jamie-merchant/
The economics part is fine I suppose, or especially if you are a falling-rate-of-profitist, but then he turns to certain aspects of US domestic politics. There, he ends up manifesting as a leftist ninny daily immersed in the lib-left echo-and-rumour chamber.
Example: ‘Although with Vance there’s been a huge controversy in conservative circles over the last couple of weeks, because everyone just realized that he has an Indian-American wife.’
Utter nonsense.
‘The defeat of the Sanders campaign’ is mentioned as if it was a great blow to ‘us’. (Who’s ‘us’? ‘(B)roadly, people who identify with the left’.)
For Merchant, Communism-through-riots in the future maybe, but I bet he thinks the Task of the Moment is getting Harris elected ( and dissuading protest votes for Stein).
