Hello,
I was thinking, I noticed that we, as a party, have a page on Twitter and Facebook, but not Instagram?
I know a lot of people who use this more than those apps, and with all the socialist “meme” culture (largely occupied by Stalinist groups at the minute) it could be a way of reaching people through a more visual medium.
We have a radical message, and I think people do like to express and support these messages through mediums such as Instagram.
I do think it’s important to ensure socialism still remains “radical” and “cool” to young people, without of course dumbing down our particular brand of it.
My partner has a fairly large Instagram page and would help me with something of this kind if I ever came to be involved. By managing a page well and by following the right people you can rack up hundreds of followers in a fairly short period of time.
Any initial thoughts?
James

May 6, 2019 at 7:41 am #186076AnonymousInactiveLet us know what we need to do, James.
May 6, 2019 at 9:06 am #186078JClark96ParticipantWell I suppose somebody would need to set up the account. I could do it , but guess it would need suggesting to the EC and then rubber stamping?
Would need to agree on the official name and logo.
Could then try to contact Instagram to get the official tick? Is this something you have done on Twitter etc?
Could then begin to share images, any photographs taken which can have captions with them. Can also be used to promote articles with a photo.
Also has a story function which could be used to remind people to vote, commemorate dates, share days and events where the party will be active.
Could even use the account to try and promote people engaging with the blog (even call outs for contributors, which editors can then assess), forum and the like ??
I think with a bit of help from other party members, and my partner (I will have to ask her, of course, but just from a platform support perspective). We could have it looking pretty slick. Le me know what you think.
May 6, 2019 at 10:05 am #186079JClark96ParticipantCould also be a good platform to promote election results! I hear the Folkestone town council one went pretty well?
Good thing to have in the run up to the EU vote, which is arguably more “image” and “logo” based (being pr) than the nitty gritty of local elections
May 6, 2019 at 2:42 pm #186083AnonymousInactiveI would say go ahead and get retrospective approval if any be needed. We need to get moving very soon for it to be ready in time for the EU elections.
Official name and logo of the Party are at the head of this page (and all our other website pages).
Folkestone results from here onwards.
May 6, 2019 at 3:53 pm #186084JClark96ParticipantDave, I will get on with it asap then! Will send you a link to it once I have it. Will have to see if it’s set up differently to a personal account, and try to get a “tick” as well.
Will start by sharing a few things from the Facebook page probably.

Shall I go for The Socialist Party (GB), or drop the GB?
The @ (which is how the account is found) cannot accept “spgb”, it’s already used. So I could go for spgbofficial, or may try thesocialistpartygb? Could come up in more searches
What do you think? James
May 6, 2019 at 6:21 pm #186088JClark96ParticipantIt’s set up. It hasn’t allowed me to put our declaration of principles in the bio, as it’s too long.
If anyone could get our principles photoshopped onto an image I could post that. Not on a laptop till tomorrow.
For now, I have put where we are standing in the EU election in it.
Will post a few images such as the one posted on FB today. And then try to get some followers!

May 6, 2019 at 11:23 pm #186101AnonymousInactiveBest to use The Socialist Party, James, I think, including the definite article in order to distinguish ourselves from SPEW.
Could you not just put a link to the Object and D of P or copy them into a suitable format such as jpg or pdf?
May 7, 2019 at 6:15 am #186105JClark96ParticipantHow about I’ll put part of the object and principles in the bio (I can’t physically fit all of it) and work on the photo later
Best I can fit is “socialistpartyofgreatbritain” in the @
May 7, 2019 at 8:13 am #186108AnonymousInactiveIs there enough space to include our Object and the Who We Are statement?
May 7, 2019 at 8:17 am #186109JClark96ParticipantThe character limit is really narrow. I can’t include all of the object and principles or the who we are. I can put one in the bio , but we’d have to agree on what words to clip out
Alternatively I can put one short line of who we are, and then a link to see why we are so?
I have put a web link to the object and principles

There you go. Please bare in mind the limitations with the bio and the @ title. The @title and account name can be changed at one click. So let me know.
The even the name The Socialist Party (SPGB) is only done because you can’t fit “The Socialist Party of Great Britain”. I think the lesson learnt is the app forces you to be succinct.
