When i lived in South India i got on friendly terms with one of the locals who had the misfortune to have three daughters. The state i lived in did not practice infanticide of females as in some other parts of India
His eldest was getting married and he had to provide the dowry which he had to take a loan out for. I asked when will he be able to pay it back. His answer was never. And he still had two more daughters.
Another case i knew of was the father buying a car for his prospective new son-in-law, they were urban professionals.
The house i rented was owned by a widow and it was going to be part of her only child’s dowry when the daughter eventually married.
Dowry is illegal but no matter whether Hindu, Muslim or Christian the custom still prevails. There are a few marital websites which are dowry-free but they are the exception.
Never witnessed or heard about sati, but I did hear from reliable sources stories that when the promised dowry never materialised, the bride was sometimes murdered in an “accident”, usually in the kitchen with cooking oil and often it was the mother-in-law who was the culprit.
A few adivasi, tribal peoples, in the hills near me practiced polyandry and the divorce process was simple…all the husband’s shoes were placed outside the house as a sign he was no longer welcome in the home.
I have just gone through the local custom where i live with my step-daughter who just got engaged. The two families meet up and agree a dowry price for the male to pay, not the female…a down-payment now and the final sum upon the marriage proper. It makes the pre-marital sex and cohabitation socially acceptable.
I have seen some leftist groups congratulating the new government of India because it is a new nationalist superpower who can compete with the USA,( based on their antiimperialist nonsenses ) but they do not see the barbaric things that are committed in India against women and workers, it does show the backward mentality of many leftwing organizations who themselves socialists. Some banks robbers are called socialists too

More precious than gold is palladium which is a critical component of catalytic converters – a part of a car’s exhaust system that controls emissions. The metal’s soaring value in recent years has seen their theft increase dramatically around the world.
Pretty soon they are going to be selling gold to buy Palladium, and new conspiracy theories will emerge
One of the reasons being given for the increased demand for gold is doubts over the dollar’s future as the world’s main reserve currency (what states hold their reserves in to settle international payments).
Other states think that the US authorities may be going to taking advantage of this position to inflate the US currency at their expense. Also that the US has been abusing its position to oblige other states to support sanctions on regimes the US wants to overthrow (Iran, Venezuela and Syria) by threatening to prosecute and fine any firms that use dollars for other transactions if they trade with these regimes.
If the US dollar collapses as the world’s reserve currency then only gold could take its place. I wouldn’t have thought this is going to happen soon but it could be a longer term tendency.
Many leftwingers are anti Yankees only, but they are not anticapitalists, they are propagating the idea that the problem of our world is the US dollar as a currency, the Federal Reserve Bank, and the US as a world superpower only
The real problem in our world is not one aspect of capitalism, or one single country, the problem is capitalism as a whole, and the elimination of nationalism and the concept of nation, exchanging the USA for Russia, or China will not resolve our problem, any of them would take the place of the USA as a world superpower.
If the USA Dollars collapse, it would be replaced by gold, but they would be forced to create a new paper currency, or use the Russian, or the Chinese currency which would not make any difference, even more, there is not enough gold to back up the actual circulation of money.
Our problems take place at the point of production, not at the financial point, or the consumption point either, these so-called Marxists must be reading comics books, or something else, but they are not reading Das Kapital.
