Global Grain Shortage

The Ukrainian war is reliably predicted to create food shortages around the world in those countries that depend on imports from the region.

But now to add to the problem, India which was expected to use some of its surplus to mitigate the shortage is suffering from a heatwave, the hottest on record. Wheat is sensitive to heat, especially during the final stage when its kernels mature and ripen and now the fear is that the harvest will be stunted and result in lower yields.

The reserves usually held to support its own buffer against hunger for the poor is already been reduced due to covid.

The ‘heatwave’ is unlikely to create any global problem. It’s the aggression against Ukraine by the mad-dog Putin and his associates that’s posing a threat to the security (the food security included) of humanity worldwide, as I see it.
