Vin,my branch didn't get any money, the Advertising Dept, spent it for us.  This is clearly something for the post-mortem.I suppose it helps that we have a member of the dept. in our branch, bu if we hadn't, we'd have been in touch with them anyway.Bill.

Well the North East branch may not have recieved any funds for an election war chest, but the Sunderland Echo has given us some free publicity (I hope the link opens)  http://www.sunderlandecho.com/news/local/all-news/the-candidates-running-for-easington-in-the-general-election-1-7247112

Money is always available for branches and committees to request at any time, regardless of if we are running an election or not…

"Money is always available for branches and committees to request at any time, regardless of if we are running an election or not…" Is that so?  We asked the E.C. for financial aid. Nothing extravagant, just the portion of subs our members paid in. We got diddly squat.

Looking through EC minutes it's looks like something was approved, if nothing was received it'll need chasing up…

An email I recieved this morning, from one of the participants of the Easington hustings; Hi Steve,I'm a member of the Green Left, (they call us water melons, green onthe outside and red on the inside), we're often called eco-ocialists. Ishare your opinions on capitalism and agree that materialism isultimately detrimental to our planet. I oppose capitalism in every wayshape and form and firmly believe that redistribution of wealth is theonly way to create a happier society. The first party I ever voted for was the Socialist Party and I stillagree with a lot of what they (and you) have to say, the only thing thatis missing for me is the environmental aspect.I thought you spoke very well in the hustings and as I said, I agreedwith a lot of your views. I wish you the best of luck comrade. I'm surethat no matter what happens we'll both continue to fight the rightwingers. All the best,Martie.

Well, Vote early, vote once.  It was heartening to see at about 5 past 7 I wasn't the first to vote, and the early morning voters were streaming in.  Can I recommend any party members who vote, or spoil their ballot, and who are on twitter, tweet it with #SPGB as the hastag?

Thanks, NL, but the vote is not going to be the real measure of the campaign(my guess is that we will average a 100 or so and do best in Easington if anybody wants to start a sweepstake). It's the work to widely and successfully publicise the case for socialism that has been put in over the past three months: leaflets distributed, hustings addressed,  tv and video interviews, email replies sent to enquirers from 38 Degrees (over a 1000) and literature still being sent to enquirers from our leaflets and adverts. Also enthusing members and sympathisers.Just off to cast a write-in vote for socialism using our sticker.
