The question in france of stripping dual national terrorists (even French born ones) of French nationality is interesting. It shows the independence of the ideological sphere, the prinjciple is hardly economic, and mostly symbollic (somethign mucst be done about terrorists, this is somehing, etc.). But for many, the universiality of French nationality, that all France nationals of the pays exteriors are French, and Frenchness is single and indivisible, is important (even if the reality does not live up to the ideal). The political importance is clear, it is about rallying a dominant coalition, and fostering the idea of possession of the national consciousness. Objectively, that suites the ruling class, but there is no existential economic interest involved.
