May 8, 2014 at 7:00 pm #101384ALBKeymasterThe Wales Report has been in touch and will be interviewing one of our candidates, Howard Moss, tomorrow (Friday). According to their website, there's a special edition on the European Elections on Wednesday 14 May at 22.40 on BBC Wales, so it looks as if it will be shown then. Here is what Howard intends to say if they give him enough time:
Quote:In or out of Europe doesn’t matter. We’re looking for a real change. Not the kind of change that puts a different set of leaders in charge of the same old system. We’ve got a system which is ruled by money and the drive for profit and by its nature it causes insecurity, divisions and conflicts between people and grotesque inequality. It allows the world’s richest 85 people to own more wealth than half the world’s population put together. This obviously won’t do. The Socialist Party of Great Britain stands for the kind of change that in Wales, Europe and over the whole planet and calls upon people to vote for a free access society without money and wages, without borders, without leaders and led. It’s a society based on democratic co-operation in using the world’s resources rationally to feed, clothe, house and give a decent life to everyone. It’s not a utopia either, it’s a real tangible prospect and more and more people are seeing that. Social consciousness is the key to this common ownership society and that’s what we’re trying to achieve by asking people to vote for us on May 22nd.May 12, 2014 at 6:56 pm #101385ALBKeymasterWe know that Royal Mail has begun to distribute our election manifesto (which is different from the one in the South East Region) in North Wales as we have already received one complaint that it wasn't bi-lingual. On the other hand, we have also received one request in response for a free 3-month trial subscription to the Socialist Standard from Caernarfon/Carnarvon

May 13, 2014 at 8:47 am #101387ALBKeymasterOur election communication is due to be distributed in South Wales today, Cardiff, Swansea, Newport and some of the valleys. Meanwhile the CPB and the SWP are trying to persuade us not to participate in any hustings at which the BNP and Britain First will be represented.
May 13, 2014 at 4:11 pm #101388BrianParticipantI've accepted two invites from the media. First one is a studio interview on BBC Radio Wales tomorrow from 12.45 to 12.50 and the other one is a hustings on Radio Cardiff on Friday the 16th from 1pm to 2pm.

If they'd rather us stand outside and shout while Lib-Lab-Con get a free rein – than go in and verbally attack them on the same platform then no thanks.

I'm sure Brian will be able to provide more details.

What a farce and political posturing by the CPB and SWP under the front of Unite Against Fascism Wales who suggested that the BNP and the Britain First were on a pre=recording husting broadcast by BBC Wales TV scheduled for today 14/5/14. And they wanted to know if we would join them in denying them a platform. It was explained to the representative of the SWP Gary Owen at the Swansea Branch meeting there was no chance we would let such a golden opportunity to challenge the obnoxious and divisive message(s) from either the CPB, SWP, BNP and Britain First on TV.However, as it turned out there was no hustings but studio interviews for all the minor parties, and despite the demonstration outside by Unite Against Fascism Wales the No2TheEu lead candidate Robert Griffiths of the CPB put their position. Like I said farcical posturing.

They stand outside demanding "no radio interviews with the BNP" and then go in to get interviewed themselves. I'd say that makes them hypocrites too. In fact, why don't they stand outside the polling stations protesting against the BNP being allowed to stand or even to exist? And since both the CPB and the SWP have themselves been the victims of "no platform" actions you'd have thought they might realise there's something wrong with it.
