Brain Johnson, is that to distinguish him from Boris?
December 9, 2019 at 4:08 pm #192066ALBKeymasterAll the 15,000 leaflets printed for distribution outside the two constituencies that we are contesting have now been distributed by members and sympathisers, door to door or in the street, in various parts of the country.

Well done Brian
December 11, 2019 at 10:06 pm #192093ALBKeymasterReplies to the i paper insert have begun to come in. They are mostly from the West Country and South Wales. The explanation presumably is that, because we only inserted in 160,000 of the 190,000, they would have inserted them in the ones that went out first ie the furthest in distance from the distribution centre in Watford.
Some replies from the election leaflets delivered by the post office but hardly any by comparison. Which was our experience in the euroelections too. There may be a lesson to be learnt here. Something to do with getting a better response from targeted distribution as opposed to distributing to everyone. Having said that, the post office regulations mean that the leaflets they distribute can’t be so reply-friendly.
December 13, 2019 at 9:03 am #192121ALBKeymasterHere’s the results where we stood.
Cardiff North: Lab 25605 (61.2%) Con 8426 LD 6298 Brexit 1006 Gwalad 280 Ind 119 Soc 88 (0.2%).
Folkestone and Hythe: Con 35473 (60.1%) Lab 14146 LD 5755 Green 2708 Ind 576 SDP 190 YPP 80 Soc 69 (0.1%).
As can be seen constituencies in Wales are smaller than in England. In 2015 we got 68 votes in Folkestone and Hythe.
December 13, 2019 at 6:38 pm #192139Socialist Party Head OfficeParticipantSPGB Kent & Sussex Branch Election Campaign News
Just to let you know that in the Parliamentary Constituency of Folkestone and Hythe yesterday, our candidate Andy Thomas received 69 votes.
This was one more vote than received when we last contested the seat in 2015.
2015 was of course in the pre-Corbyn Labour Party period, but then we also had TUSC (ex-Militant SPEW coalition) on the ballot paper. Not an easy comparison, but if people were tempted by leftist reformism or Brexit issues, 2019 was probably their year to be so. Labour almost doubled their vote in this period.
During this campaign we distributed 56,500 leaflets via Royal Mail, 5,000 copies of the first edition of the local ‘World News’ flyer to Folkestone Harbour and other selected parts of the constituency including Cheriton, Sandgate and Hythe, and inserts in last weekend’s i-newspaper (among 160,000 in the southern region).
Of course it’s not really the votes that are so important at this stage, but the fact that for an outlay of under £1,500 we got our leaflet delivered through 56,500 letter boxes, plus our propaganda free several times in local newspaper columns and candidate interviews on BBC TV and the Academy FM Community Radio Station.
Rob Cox, Branch Treasurer.

December 13, 2019 at 9:11 pm #192142Mike FosterParticipantWell done to everyone for their hard work on the election campaign!
December 14, 2019 at 1:09 am #192147alanjjohnstoneKeymasterHow regular do you think you can produce “World News” in the future.
That seems to me a very promising initiative.
I also assume your branch will carry on doing street stalls and use them as outlets to distribute future issues.
Our Welsh comrades fully intend to continue with their regular street stalls. It would be good if they also had a locally published newsletter to hand out as well.
Campaign activity doesn’t end with the closing of the polling stations, as we all know.

Is there an electronic version of this that could be made available here?
December 14, 2019 at 10:01 am #192153ALBKeymasterAn electronic copy of “World News” has been sent to the Internet Committee to put up at an appropriate place on this site.
December 14, 2019 at 2:49 pm #192170PartisanZParticipantI posted here with small (poor screenshot) images and this link to the PDF.

December 14, 2019 at 5:19 pm #192182ALBKeymasterThe article on the front was written by a comrade in the Indian party and used as the editorial in the September Standard. And also as a leaflet for some climate change events that month.
December 15, 2019 at 10:44 am #192204Socialist Party Head OfficeParticipantWe have now received over 70 replies to the insert in the i paper, with more to come. From the replies it seems that “the South” also covers East Anglia and the Midlands.
December 15, 2019 at 10:57 am #192209robbo203ParticipantPerhaps an SS article on the appalling behaviour of British press is called for
December 15, 2019 at 10:20 pm #192226alanjjohnstoneKeymasterOr a whole issue devoted to the media, ideology and the manipulation of minds, methinks
I’m very pleased to see the promising response to our insert. Needless to say, we should watch very closely the future behaviour of those expressing an interest by actually answering our ad and if it leads to closer contact.
Perhaps we can also investigate other newspapers where we can place similar inserts, particularly the local press so to give our waning branch strength a boost.
Maybe also an insert in conjunction linking to a local public meeting, for it seems they are unfortunately mostly member-only events with few non-members in the audience.
